Wisconsin Host Takes On 'Making a Murderer' With 10-Part Rebuttal Series

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 21ST, 2016 –– The trials and tribulations of Steven Avery and the subsequent Netflix documentary series "Making a Murderer," have caused a viral phenomenon. While some argue that Steven Avery's case is a failure to our judicial system, others assert that the documentary paints a one-sided picture of the trial and conviction of Mr. Avery.

7Enter Dan O'Donnell (L), a non-practicing lawyer and radio journalist at WISN, iHeartMedia's News/Talk station in Wisconsin, who has a unique perspective on the case. Dan was assigned to cover Avery from his release in 2003 through his (and his nephew's) conviction in 2007. While he doesn't make much of an appearance in the documentary, "Making a Murderer" has had a profound impact on Dan - particularly, due to its bias. And so, Dan is doing what any lawyer would do in the courtroom - rebut the case presented in the Netflix documentary - and it can all be heard on iHeartRadio.

Mirroring the show as a 10-part series, WISN has produced a podcast entitled "Rebutting a Murderer" which combines the best parts of "Serial" with the buzz of "Making a Murderer" and the unique perspective of law-school educated journalist who was there covering it all, bringing to light pieces of evidence the filmmakers left out or glazed over. The series just finished up the last of its 10 episodes. LISTEN HERE

Nielsen Wants to Watch You Talk On Social Media About TV

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 21ST, 2016 –– Nielsen announced this week that it is working with Facebook to include conversations about TV programs in its measurement system. According to recode.net, Nielsen is going to start tracking discussions that people have about TV on Facebook with their family and friends, even if that discussion isn’t marked as “public.” Nielsen still won’t be able to peer into Facebook messages you send directly to your friends, but it will see if you post a message on someone’s feed declaring your love for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” or “Jessica Jones.”

Nielsen says it will create new social TV ratings that incorporate Facebook data later this year, and will rename its Twitter TV Ratings “Social Content Ratings” when that happens. Eventually, it says, it will also incorporate conversation from Instagram. If the fact that Nielsen will know you told your friends you love “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is worrisome for you, you can relax a bit: The company says it will only use the data in aggregate form, so your semi-secret will be safe. THE MOUTH, JANUARY 20TH, 2016 –– Mike Francesa, WFAN New York's venerable afternoon radio host since 1989, told FS1's Katie Nolan during a "Garbage Time" podcast that when his contract with WFAN ends at the end of 2017, he will be done with the station. According to Fox Sports, Francesa, who joined the station in 1987 and was paired with Chris "Mad Dog" Russo from 1989-2008, made it clear that his career isn't necessarily ending, just his time at the legendary New York sports talk radio station.

"I'm not saying I'm leaving the business, the 61-year-old host told Nolan. "I'm leaving 7Monday to Friday, five-and-a half-hours, FAN. I'm bringing the curtain down on that part of the show." Francesa added, "I'm not saying I'm not gonna work again. I'm not saying I'm not gonna do anything ever again. What I'm saying is, that part of my life is ending at the end of 2017. I've agreed to stay through the end of 2017," he said. "We talked about me leaving earlier. We discussed it. They didn't really want it. They really didn't give me a chance to get out. They never offered me a reasonable way out. So 2017 it is. You can watch a portion of Nolan's interview with Francesa on "Garbage Time," Wednesday night at midnight on FS1. WATCH HERE

[LISTEN] Host Apologizes After Using Racial Epithet To Describe Eagle's Player

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 20TH, 2016 –– WIP Philadelphia's Josh Innes apologized after drawing heat by referring to a Philadelphia Eagle' player, who is white, as a 'House Negro.' Referring to Eagle's player, Jason Keice, Innes said, (edited) "Let me find a good comparison here. I was watching Malcolm X yesterday ... and there was a scene where Denzel’s doing the whole thing about the slave and the house negro? Right? And like, the house negro is the guy who’s gonna tell you like, oh he gets to live in the big house with the boss and every time he refers to something that happens in the house it’s ‘our house’ and ‘we’ and everything like that. And then there’s the actual slave that isn’t the house negro that’s just trying to run away. Essentially what you’re getting here is Jason Kelce is the house negro is what I’m trying to convey to you. ..."

In his apology, he explained “I think [Jason Kelce] is the Eddie Haskell of the team, whoever the coach is he’s gonna kiss the coach’s (a)ss, that’s always been my opinion of Jason Kelce. And then I tried to make a comparison to how I was watching Malcolm X yesterday, and I made a bad analogy, and for that I apologize .. my intention was not to offend anybody or anything …it all came out poorly and I see that people are making fun of me across the country and you should make fun of me across the country because I’m stupid. Like, it was in no way meant to offend anybody, it was stupid is all it was and I apologize for that, I truly do. I’m an idiot. I acknowledge I’m an idiot.” LISTEN HERE
