iHeartRadio Surpasses 80 Million Registered Users

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 22ND, 2016 –– iHeartRadio announced it has surpassed 80 million registered users. iHeartRadio continues to reach user milestones at a rate faster than Facebook or any other radio or digital music service, having reached 70 million registered users just last summer. The number of registered users do not account for the millions of listeners who tune in to iHeartRadio's live 7radio stations, which does not require registration -- meaning that iHeartRadio's reach is even greater. iHeartRadio has also been downloaded more than 850 million times, has 80 million social media followers and is now available on more than 80 unique device platforms

"In just five years, we've seen continued powerful growth in our registered user base - a testament to the power of radio and listening," said Darren Davis, President of iHeartRadio. "Our listeners have many new ways to enjoy our stations and programming, and we want to continue to deepen their listening experience and ensure we're available everywhere they expect us to be." Earlier this month at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, iHeartRadio announced integrations on seven new platforms, including AppleTV.

Wisconsin Host Takes On 'Making a Murderer' With 10-Part Rebuttal Series

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 21ST, 2016 –– The trials and tribulations of Steven Avery and the subsequent Netflix documentary series "Making a Murderer," have caused a viral phenomenon. While some argue that Steven Avery's case is a failure to our judicial system, others assert that the documentary paints a one-sided picture of the trial and conviction of Mr. Avery.

7Enter Dan O'Donnell (L), a non-practicing lawyer and radio journalist at WISN, iHeartMedia's News/Talk station in Wisconsin, who has a unique perspective on the case. Dan was assigned to cover Avery from his release in 2003 through his (and his nephew's) conviction in 2007. While he doesn't make much of an appearance in the documentary, "Making a Murderer" has had a profound impact on Dan - particularly, due to its bias. And so, Dan is doing what any lawyer would do in the courtroom - rebut the case presented in the Netflix documentary - and it can all be heard on iHeartRadio.

Mirroring the show as a 10-part series, WISN has produced a podcast entitled "Rebutting a Murderer" which combines the best parts of "Serial" with the buzz of "Making a Murderer" and the unique perspective of law-school educated journalist who was there covering it all, bringing to light pieces of evidence the filmmakers left out or glazed over. The series just finished up the last of its 10 episodes. LISTEN HERE

Nielsen Wants to Watch You Talk On Social Media About TV

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 21ST, 2016 –– Nielsen announced this week that it is working with Facebook to include conversations about TV programs in its measurement system. According to recode.net, Nielsen is going to start tracking discussions that people have about TV on Facebook with their family and friends, even if that discussion isn’t marked as “public.” Nielsen still won’t be able to peer into Facebook messages you send directly to your friends, but it will see if you post a message on someone’s feed declaring your love for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” or “Jessica Jones.”

Nielsen says it will create new social TV ratings that incorporate Facebook data later this year, and will rename its Twitter TV Ratings “Social Content Ratings” when that happens. Eventually, it says, it will also incorporate conversation from Instagram. If the fact that Nielsen will know you told your friends you love “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” is worrisome for you, you can relax a bit: The company says it will only use the data in aggregate form, so your semi-secret will be safe.
