WCSX Hosts Wants Street Renamed After The Late Glenn Frey

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 28TH, 2016 –– Jim O'Brien, co-host of The Trudi & Jim Morning Show on 94.7 WCSX Detroit, tells Jockline, "Glenn Frey graduated from Dondero High School in Royal Oak, and never let go of his love for Detroit. A lot of people don't realize 7how close he was to going on the road with Bob Seger back in the '60s (but his mom caught him smoking a joint and wouldn't let him go). This seemed like a no-brainer, so I reached out to the city of Royal Oak and they found a stretch of road (on Willis Dr.) that could be renamed Glenn Frey Drive. Now we need to make sure they know how important this is to Detroit (and the music world in general)."

This started the launch of helping to make Glenn Frey Drive a reality! It'll go up for a vote with the board on Thursday, Feb. 11th and WCSX wants to make sure it passes by showing them support from all over Detroit (and beyond). Check it out at #GlennFreyDrive

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 28TH, 2016 –– Salem Media Group's Hugh Hewitt has garnered a lot of national facetime during the presidential debate season, but now his latest interview with MSNBC's Joe Scarborough is catching some added attention. "I don't know where you get that from?" said Scarborough. "You always get me in trouble with questions like this, Hugh. ... Nobody's going to ask me to do anything but, like, take them to softball practice and baseball practice... I don't know. I don't think he would ask me. Let's move on." Scarborough finally said he would do just about anything to get the White House back," which led Hewitt to interpret as a "yes." "No, it's not a yes," Scarborough replied. "You're telling me this is why I walked away from dinner with my kids, to not answer this question?" READ TRANSCRIPT HERE, or LISTEN HERE

[LISTEN] Trump Announces Bolt From Iowa Debate On Savage Show; Cruz Calls For One-On-One Debate On Talk Radio

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 27TH, 2016 –– GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump talked to Michael Savage yesterday on The Savage Nation, just before Trump boarded a plane for Iowa for Monday's Iowa Caucuses. Trump said he would not appear on Thursday night's FOX News Channel GOP debate after speaking to Savage, when Savage told him on-air he hoped he wouldn't appear. The news follows Trump repeated objection to the participation of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly as one of its three moderators, claiming she has treated him unfairly. He was also critical of Fox's press release issued earlier, which he said was 'belittling him was inappropriately antagonistic and childish.' LISTEN HERE

7Joining last night's Mark Levin Show, Ted Cruz told Mark Levin that he is 7challenging Donald Trump to a one-on-one debate. He suggested that the debate be held on talk radio, and that it be a "Megyn Kelly-free zone". The challenge comes after Trump said he would not participate in the Fox News debate on Thursday January 28, 2016. Cruz told Levin, "The fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage. That he doesn't want his record questioned. I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa." Cruz said if Trump is afraid of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, or Megyn Kelly hosting a debate that he is willing to do an hour long head-to-head debate with no moderator. LISTEN HERE

CHRISTMAS: 'Kind Of A Big Deal' For Radio In 2015

Adele’s record-setting 25 A Likely Factor That Helped Push AC Into The Record Books At Year-End

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 27TH, 2016 –– The recent release of Nielsen’s holiday ratings data has some formats basking in the afterglow of a particularly generous holiday listening season. With each passing year, the buildup to and payoff from switching to an “all-Christmas” format continues to pay dividends. In 2015, 528 radio stations nationwide adopted a holiday programming format, which was just one station shy of 2014’s record of 529 stations. Either way you slice it, “all-Christmas” radio is a big deal on the airwaves, and the holiday book results prove that out.

After showing signs of growth in the December ratings, which covered Nov. 5, 2015, through Dec. 2, 2015, Adult 7Contemporary (AC) shot to new heights in the holiday book, posting new records in several demographics and finishing as the top-ranked format nationwide. This is the second year in a row that AC has increased its share of listening during the holiday survey; what’s more, among Millennial audiences (aged 18-34), the year-over-year results jumped by more than a full share point between 2014 and 2015. It also bears mentioning that the release of Adele’s record-setting 25 is another likely factor that helped push AC into the record books to close the year.

Mel Greig Returns To The Air Three Years After Royal Prank

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 27TH, 2016 –– Three years after the radio prank heard around the world, Mel Greig is returning to radio to join Travis Watkins on Wave FM Mornings. According to stuff.co.nz, she fielded several calls on her first day back, including one from Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson from KIIS 1065.

Sandilands, no stranger to controversy himself, said "From time to time you make some mistakes and you can either ride the wave out and keep doing 7what you do or you can bury your head in the sand like what Mel did and disappear for years and come back a stronger person," said Sandilands. Greig admitted that the road back had been far from easy but that she wanted to start her new job without being "aligned" to the 2012 prank call.

"It's been so tough," she said. "People just won't give me that chance. The biggest problem is we didn't want to be aligned with that prank call. You know, if you start somewhere we're going to get that bad reputation, we're going to get people talking about it and rehashing it [but] it hasn't happened with this. The press has been incredibly supportive and positive." Earlier, actor Sophie Monk, who starred with Greig in Celebrity Apprentice called in to lend her support, describing her friend as "organized, loyal and awesome". The infamous prank call on December 4, 2012 was made by Greig and her then co-host Mike Christian on 2Day FM's breakfast show
