Emmis Banks On Local As It Flips H-HITS To Top 40 NOW 96.3

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 30TH, 2015 –– Looks like there's a CHR battle about to break out in St. Louis as Emmis Radio has flipped adult hits K-HITS to CHR under the new brand, NOW 96.3. GM John Beck tells stltoday.com, they will bring in some high-profile talent at "NOW 96.3." "The deejays will be here in St. Louis, the music is researched here in St. Louis, and the contests will be in St. 7Louis only," said Beck. "This will be radio like it should be, like it used to be," Beck said. Beck's pointed the emphasis on local talent — hinting a showdown with iHeart Media's KSLZ-FM 107.7- Z-107 who airs Elvis Duran in mornings and Ryan Seacrest in middays from L.A. Emmis has signed a well-known game-show host and STL native Todd Newton middays who won a Daytime Emmy last year for his hosting of "Family Game Night." Curt Copeland, who spent nine years at KSLZ, will handle morning drive; Christine Pawluk arrives from Chicago to handle afternoons and Nina Blanco moves to evenings. Proramming will be Tommy Mattern, who also is program director for Emmis' alternative-rock station, KPNT-FM 105.7 ("The Point"). Current hosts Rick Sanborn and Todd Morgan will reportedly not remain with the station. The station will rotate 60 minutes of commercial-free music, a nine-minute block of ads, and then 60 minutes of music and so on. Emmis, which also operates KSHE-FM 94.7 and KFTK-FM 97.1/97 NewsTalk, will move to have the station's call letters changed to KNOU.

On-Air 'Casting Call' Underway At 97.9 The Loop Chicago

7

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 30TH, 2015 –– Starting Monday, 97.9 The Loop Chicago will begin a series of four weeklong “tryouts,” testing various hosts and inviting listeners to register their feedback, reports Chicago blogger Robert Feder. The morning slot has 7been open since last September when The Loop parted company with Maxwell. First up is Abe Kanan whose show enjoyed a three-year run on Howard Stern’s Sirius/XM Radio channel. Kanan’s show will include his brother Sam, Ryan Manno and Dan “Bass” Levy. Feder says Muller is also on the list of radio personalities who are expected to participate in The Loop’s “Morning Radio Casting Call.” Muller took a break last October when his morning show on Fox-owned WPWR-Channel 50 ended its two-year run. “I’ve worked nonstop since 1985,” he said at the time. Feder says Liz Wilde, who once hosted evening on The Loop, is also set to audition. Cumulus has been operating The Loop and WKQX since January 2014, when it signed a local marketing agreement with Merlin Media for both stations with an option to buy. At the Loop's website, it posted: 'YOU put the U in WLUP Hey Loopers! Hear personalities try out for the morning shift on The Loop. Starting Monday February 2nd, tune in, turn up and sound off. Listen from 6:00 am to 9:00 am then plan to give feedback here at WLUP.com.

STUDY: Radio Has 'Monster' Reach

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 30TH, 2015 –– In Edison's Larry Rosen blog titled: The Monster: AM/FM Reach, he writes: 'Imagine you are a national advertiser and you need to get a message out to as many people as possible in ONE DAY. Well, if you want to use audio, no matter what broad age group you are targeting Broadcast will get you the most people by 7far (the only age group that is close is 13-17s). Fully 75% of respondents in our Fall 2014 Share of Ear study recorded at least some listening to AM/FM Radio in their one-day listening diary. Even among 13-24 year-olds, broadcast provides the most daily reach by a large margin. But one can see how this is changing. While broadcast reaches 62% of 13-24s in a day, Pandora all by itself reaches 23% (or put another way -- Pandora has more than one-third the reach of Broadcast all by itself). Fast-growing Spotify -- which is increasingly being consumed on its ad-supported tier, reaches 14% of 13-24s. The classic radio "money demo" of 25-54s sees almost 80% listening to Broadcast Radio each day -- no doubt in part because most radio stations target this group. Pandora now reaches more than one-in-six of all 25-54s itself as well.

Piolin Pens Inspirational Autobiography

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 30TH, 2015 –– Eddie 'Piolin' Sotelo has penned a soon to be released autobiography. Titled “¿A qué venimos? ¡A triunfar!” (What did we come for? To Win!), Piolin talks about how he found his voice within faith, strength and determination. In order for readers to enter to his life, the radio host told People en Español he did some deep digging into his past. “I had to reunite with almost every day with my parents to recall anecdotes and stories from my childhood,” he said. “It’s a big responsibility to write a book.” In his literature project, which includes a prologue by Cuban producer Emilio Estefan, the 42-year-old narrates everything from personal family problems to his experience crossing the U.S. border as an undocumented immigrant. He also talks about his marriage with Maria Luisa. “There’s a section in the book where she talks about my virtues, it’s about 140 pages, and my defects, which is one blank page,” he joked. He hopes people will get to know the real him via his book. “You learn from every challenge in life. Sometimes you don’t understand it, but you have to focus on the positive side,” he said. Colin Cowherd, Seattle native and host, ESPN Radio'7s "The Herd" calls it Patriots 27, Seahawks 16 -- 'The Patriots' defense repeatedly keeps the Seahawks out of the end zone. It's not just Tom Brady. Mike Golic (above right), co-host of ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike" says its Seahawks 27, Patriots 21. His co-host, Mike Greenberg (left) says it will be Seahawks 23, Patriots 16 -- One of the great defenses of all time -- and Marshawn Lynch. Hannah Storm, "SportsCenter" anchor Seahawks 21, Patriots 14 -- 'Top to bottom, the Seahawks' defense is the best in the NFL. [WATCH] Radio Host Being Called Hero After Coming To The Aid Of Injured Police Officer

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 29TH, 2015 –– A Las Vegas radio host is being called a hero after coming to the aid of a police officer who was the victim of a hit and run. Miles Farlow, a host n KCEP FM 881.1 and Michael Gutierrez say they both stopped to aid a police officer who fell of his motorcycle earlier this week on a local Interstate highway. The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m.near an off-ramp. According to Fox 5 Las Vegas, the patrolman was traveling southbound along I-15 when a driver hit his motorcycle and then fled. Farlow witnessed the car swerve and hit the motorcycle officer. 'The officer went flying at least 30 yards, 90 feet,' Farlow said. After being ejected from his bike, the officer's head hit the concrete barrier wall. Farlow ran over to help, attempting to calm him down until help arrived. "I wasn't really scared. I wasn't worried about anything besides getting him safe because he can't help. Another man, Michael Gutierrez, also ran to his aid. Farlow said he doesn't consider himself a hero. He was just doing what anyone should do in the situation. "It hurts, and it's shocking to realize there are so few people in this world that will actually do that, that will actually put their life on the line to help another life," he said. WHO's Simon Conway Flashes Lights During Interview With DOT Official In Mock Protest

THE MOUTH, JANUARY 29TH, 2015 –– Talker Simon Conway is usually lighting up the phone lines at 1040 WHO Des Moines from callers, but yesterday it was a guest he was lighting up - so to speak. He tells Jockline, 'There's strange goings on in Iowa! The State's DOT wants to run a pilot program to put blue and white lights on the back of snow plows to see if that reduces wrecks involving the vehicles. Not only will this cost a staggering $250,000,' says Conway, 'but before it can happen it requires the approval of a minimum of 77 lawmakers including the Governor. 'I don't tolerate stupid very easily,' says Conway. And to make his point, when he had State Senator Mark Chelgren in his studio yesterday, he placed two blue and white lights next to him and invited his listeners to watch on his show's web cam. "We needed no approval and it didn't cost a Dime", he said. "Mark was a good sport too," he said, 'conducting the entire interview with these lights spinning in front of him." Conway has now launched a campaign to get the Iowa DOT to use data from four similar pilot studies around the country thereby saving the State hard cash!
