REPORT: Casey Kasem Has Only A Few Months To Live

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 21ST, 2013 –– Jean Kasem, radio legend Casey Kasem has only a few months left to live, according to a TMZ report. The news stems from a former housekeeper who's suing the couple in small claims court which was heard last Friday. Although Jean wasn't present, the wife of her lawyer appeared on Jean's behalf. Jean requested a continuance for a few months because that's how long it will take for "the situation to resolve or end, unfortunately." Since the housekeeper didn't file court papers properly, the lawsuit was dismissed, but coupled with recent news of his oldest children's requests to take ovmer the care of their ailing father, which was rejected by a judge, the news added more heartache to an already sad situation. According to detroitskidshow.com, Kasem graduated from Detroit's Northwestern High School and Wayne State University. He worked at WJLB and In and later became Casey at the Mike handling nights at WJBK-AM. Kasem left Detroit’s in 1957 for radio stations in Cleveland, Buffalo, Oakland and eventually Los Angeles. It was in Oakland where he developed his unique style of introducing songs with uplifting stories about the lives of music artists. American Top 40 with Casey Kasem made it’s syndicated debut on July 4, 1970. For more than thirty years Kasem counted down the hits, until his last AT-40 broadcast on July 7, 2004. WFAN's Francesa Calls 'Sunday Night Football' Theme 'Dumbest Song Ever Created [VIDEO]

mTHE MOUTH, OCTOBER 21ST, 2013 –– Here's one topic that won't likely put WFAN/New York's The Fan's Mike Francesa to sleep (remember ?) This would be Carrie Underwood's 'Sunday Night Football' theme song. According to cambio.com, last week he ripped into the diddy while lamenting how TV has diluted the NFL's Monday Night Football since the addition of its Thursday and Sunday night offering. In the process, he called out Underwood's "Waiting All Day For Sunday Night" tune calling it the "dumbest song ever created," recently during a segment on his show he said "No one waits all day, they watch football all day!" For those keeping up with its theme songs, Underwood followed Faith Hill who previously sang the Sunday night song before her. Check out Mike's rant at around the two minute mark - WATCH HERE. Legal Wrangling Continues Between Eddie Sotelo And Former Staffers

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 21ST, 2013 –– Spanish-language radio star Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo who just relaunched is radio show "El Show de Piolín," on SiriusXM is now being counter-sued by six former staff members of his "Piolín por la Mañana" program on Univision Radio. According to The LA Times, Sotelo sued the ex-members in late August, alleging they had teamed to extort as much as $4.9 million from him. In response, lawyers for the group filed a lengthy motion on Oct. 15, asking a judge to strike Sotelo's lawsuit. In its motion, the former workers alleged that as Sotelo's Univision career began to soar, his behavior toward them turned increasingly abusive. They claim he humiliated them 'derogatory names, licking and biting them, rubbing his body against theirs, and grabbing his genitals.' The group claims to have tolerated the alleged behavior because they feared they would lose their jobs if they complained. Sotelo's attorney, Jeffrey Spitz, called the staffers' motion "a predictable legal maneuver." "We look forward to the day of reckoning when the defendants will have to answer Eddie’s extortion claim in court," said Spitz. Sotelo previously has said that he is the victim of a smear campaign, and that ex-staff members were motivated by greed and jealousy.

Lite 106.9 Louisville Strings Bras On The Bridge

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 21ST, 2013 –– With just one of the numerous promotions being presented in behalf of breast cancer awareness, Lite 106.9 Indy, likely got motorist's attention with its stretch of nearly 5,000 bras across Big Four Bridge on Sunday. According to The Courier Journal, the idea of stringing bras across the bridge came from Lite 106.9 personalities John and Jeff Ramsey. They were still taking donations yesterday during the official event. Promotions coordinator Danielle McKenzie said supporters had already put them over the top. They had enough bras on hand to string them the length of the bridge “three or four times,” she said. “We have collected so many,” she said. “It’s amazing how the community has stepped up.” Of note, donated bras that can be reused will be given to the Center for Women and Families. SBG's Jason Bailey Fires Back At Cuban Over Radio Diss

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 18TH, 2013 –– As Jockline Daily has well documented, Benztown syndicated R Dub came up empty on last week's airing of ABC's highly rated 'Shark Tank while pitching for 10% equity in his 'Slow Jams' radio show in exchange for $75k (JD 10/14). But not overlooked was Mark Cuban's comment that 'radio syndication is a horrible business;' and fellow investor Kevin O'Leary adding later, "As an investment 'radio sucks." This obviously didn't sit well with Sun Broadcast Group's CEO, Jason Bailey (left) who issued an open letter to the billionaire investor. In a lengthy missive Jason wrote: "Mark, you and I have never had the pleasure to meet and as a young entrepreneur who has owned my own businesses since I graduated from high school, you are someone I have always admired for the unique and innovative investments you make. Your response to this offer was one that in mthe absence of anyone else in my industry being vocal, I simply couldn’t let go unchallenged. I urge you to read on and reconsider your opinion about the true potential of this form of media, that I and passionate people all over this country give their lives to each and every day ... I don’t blame you completely for your opinion about radio. So many in our industry have simply lost their way. Somewhere along the way that personal touch, that unafraid approach to programming gave way to stockholders and corporations worried more about what’s safe and tested, and less about how they can truly create a better; more intimate connection to the lives of those listening..." Bailey added "I strongly believe a “smaller” show in smaller markets or with fewer stations that personally connects and interacts with their audience has greater value than some bulky show that by just shear mathematic manipulation has more “audience”. Somehow that’s the measurement lately. Just own big stations, keep your expenses low, and the basic math will make the Boardroom happy. Don’t worry about the listener…”they’ll always be there."READ ENTIRE LETTER HERE

Britney Spears 'Radio Rules' Sparks Questions

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 18TH, 2013 –– Top celebrity guidelines for interviews has long been a challenge for most radio hosts. They want the interview, but don't want it to come at the expense of their content from being limited by excessive restrictions. This happened recently on KRBE Houston's Roula and Ryan Show (JD 10/8) where they ripped the star over what they called a 'stupid interview and big waist of time.' The story mwent viral and quickly landed on top gossip sites across the globe. This week it caught the attention of New York's Daily News. They reported "We've been told that before leaving for London this week, Spears did a spree of radio spots, with stations told that their five-minute interviews could discuss only Brit-Brit’s Vegas show, her new single and her “Britney Jean” album.” And, as the Roula and Ryan interview suggest, insiders tell NYDN that efforts to limit Spears’ opportunities to embarrass herself are doing the complete opposite.” KRBE's Roula (right) told NYDN "We thought we could make something out of the ‘rules’ dictated before the interview, but as we commenced, we quickly realized this was a one-sided conversation,” said Roula. “That is not entertaining to our audience.” Spears’ reps countered by saying "The info they provided was not a mandate, but rather an aid to make the radio spots move along smoothly." Rush Limbaugh Talks Radio With Chris Stigall: "Just Do A Good Show" [AUDIO]

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 18TH, 2013 –– Radio's Anchorman, Rush Limbaugh, made a surprise call this morning into WPHT/Philadelphia's Chris Stigall show. As reported this week, both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity will return to the Philly airwaves in the weeks ahead. Prior to Rush's launch on October 28th, Rush and Chris began the chat by talking about, no, not the government shutdown, but GOLF. Eventually they did get around to the subject of radio. Stigall raised the big debate on talk radio getting away from just issues and politics. "Who says mthat?" asked Rush. "I'm probably going to get myself in trouble for saying this, but who says that? A consultant?, asked Limbaugh. "That's the wrong instruction. Just do a good show," he directs. Rush then talked about his big break following his early days back on music radio. "Because I'm a performer, and I always wanted to be the reason people listened. Not the record rotation or promotions or giveaways or contest. So I never got the chance to do a radio show I really wanted to because of all the restrictions. Then I went to Sacramento in 1984 and shortly after they hired me they stole a morning team from across town and they forgot about me ... and thank God they did." "It got ratings and they left me alone. LISTEN TO AUDIO HERE

HOWARD WHO? Rush Asked About Howard Stern By Film Crew [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 18TH, 2013 –– Well, they may now be neighbors on West Palm beach following Howard Stern and wife Beth recently plopping down $52 million for a new beachfront mansion, but apparently Rush wasn't impressed. While in Los Angeles, Limbaugh was confronted by a TMZ film crew as he exited a restaurant and was asked about former wrestler Jesse Ventura‘s plan to run for president in 2016 with Howard Stern as vice president . Limbaugh forced a smile and said “Who? I don’t know who you’re talking about!” Limbaugh may not exactly be a fan of Howard who has referred to him in the past in unflattering terms." THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 18TH, 2013 –– As promised, Cumulus Media Networks presented a conference call yesterday featuring Michael Savage (right) for current and potential affiliates. Cumulus head John Dickey led with a rousing introduction saying “There’s a fine line between intellectual genius and craziness, and I can say that, in all due respect, Michael walks that line wonderfully.." Dickey added, "Savage is a great storyteller…we forget that we are in the business of theater of the mind, getting people to spend more time with us” by telling stories that connect with the listener ... He’s earned this move and I think he’s going to do a wonderful job at engaging and growing the audience, and at delivering the numbers.” Savage followed by saying “All I can say after that, John, is that you have set the stage for me in a way that I couldn’t do for myself and I am humbled by your statements.” he then quipped that Dickey might want to consider a career as a Talk radio host. “Thanks, but I don’t think I’ll quit my day job anytime soon," said Dickey. Savage did indicate he would be talking about the issues of the day and politics is part of that, but said he would also offer topics beyond the realm of politics.
