AT&T Reaches Deal To Buy Time-Warner For $85.4 Billion; CNN, HBO, WB Among Properties

7

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 24TH, 2016 –– AT&T has reached an agreement to buy Time Warner Inc. for $85.4 billion reports The Wall Street Journal. The wireless carrier agreed to pay $107.50 a share, evenly split between cash and stock. The companies said they expect the deal to close by the end of 2017. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson (L) would head the new company. 7Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes (R) would stay for an interim period following the close of the deal to help with the transition. The combined business would pair the carrier’s millions of wireless and pay-television subscribers with Time Warner’s deep media lineup, which includes networks such as CNN, TNT, the prized HBO channel and Warner Bros. film and TV studio. “Premium content always wins. It has been true on the big screen, 7the TV screen and now it’s proving true on the mobile screen,” Mr. Stephenson, 56 years old, said in a release.

On a conference call Saturday night, Stephenson played down any regulatory roadblocks saying, "Any concerns by the regulators we believe would be adequately addressed by conditions,” he said.

Bewkes said a big difference from the AOL days is that distribution has become even more central to giving consumers what they demand from media—more flexibility in the packages they can buy, and the platforms they can accesses content from. “There’s more video going on mobile,” Mr. Bewkes said.

Judge Seals Photo Of Taylor Swift, Radio Host Groping Lawsuit; Deposition Released

7

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 24TH, 2016 –– As a follow-up to last week's story (JL 10/20), Taylor Swift has earned a small victory in her lawsuit against former KYGO/Denver host David Mueller. A Colorado judge ruled in favor of Swift on Friday, agreeing to keep a photo of Mueller, aka Jackson, allegedly groping her at a 2013 concert from the public until the case goes to trial. Swift's attorneys filed a motion last week requesting to seal hundreds of pages of court documents, as well as the photograph that allegedly depicts groping, arguing that the photo was inappropriate for public consumption. "It is all but assured that the photograph will be shared for scandalous and prurient interests, reasons that have nothing to do with the public's interest in the Court's decision making," Swift's attorneys stated in court documents reports etonline.com. While the motion to seal the photograph has been granted, the judge did not rule in favor of restricting access to all of the court documents requested by Swift's attorneys -- as well as the documents requested by Mueller's side.

According to records obtained by Billboard, her depositon stated: "Right as the moment came for us to pose for the photo, he took his hand and put it up my dress and grabbed onto my (a)ss cheek and no matter how much I scooted over it was still there. It was completely intentional; I've never been so sure of anything in my life. I remember being frantic, distressed, [and] feeling violated in a way I had never experienced before. A meet-and-greet is supposed to be a situation where you’re thanking people for coming, you're supposed to be welcoming people into your home, which is the arena for that day, and for someone to violate that hospitality in that way, I was completely stunned. Radio Should Be Recruiting Future Talent In High Schools Says Dick Taylor

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 24TH, 2016 –– I’ve had the opportunity to work with college students looking for a career in radio, blogs Dick Taylor, prof. of Journalism &Broadcasting at WKU. He says, "It’s made me think about my own radio career and college education. Let me share with you some observations. Recruit in High School Most of the people I know who got into radio did what I did, built a radio station in their parent’s home and began broadcasting to their neighborhood. I did that in the 7th grade; junior high school. By the time I was in the 10th grade in high school I had earned my 3rd Class Radiotelephone Operators License, Broadcast Endorsed from the Federal Communications Commission, got my work permit from my state government and was working weekends at one of my local commercial radio stations.

7Students today are more advanced than I was when I was their age, yet the broadcasting industry doesn’t start recruiting these days until young people are getting ready to graduate college. Why? Bachelor’s Degrees So many radio jobs I post on my “Sales Jobs Board” require a bachelor’s degree. Why? My entire radio career I had a bachelor’s and a master’s degree and not one broadcasting company I worked for ever asked me about them -- I’m not saying a college education isn’t important; it broadens you in ways that don’t pay an immediate return on your investment.

If you want to find radio talent you should be in the high schools, middle schools and elementary schools of your community. I really believe you can’t start too young in cultivating the radio talent you will need in the future. But waiting until our youth graduate college is simply too late. READ ENTIRE BLOG HERE

The film will be developed by DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way. DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson will produce along with author Peter Guralnick, Mick Jagger, Victoria Pearman, Steve Bing, Ian Montone, and Rick Yorn. Curt Schilling To Host Radio Show On Breitbart Network

THE MOUTH, OCTOBER 24TH, 2016 –– Breitbart News announced today that Curt Schilling will be joining for a new radio online show, which will air from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eastern Time at Breitbart.com. “I am joining the Breitbart Team for one reason,” he said. “At the end of the day, when you look at what Breitbart does on a day-in-day-out basis — you can hate all the stories all you want — but, they are backed by sources. They are backed by data. They are backed by facts.” Schilling said, as he joins the team, he is personally overwhelmed by the legend and vision of Andrew Breitbart, the news organization’s late founder.

The show marks Schilling’s return to media six months after ESPN fired him for sharing an anti-transgender Facebook post with a message. "He’s a really talented broadcaster,” Breitbart editor-in-chief Alex Marlow said. Schilling’s jump to Breitbart will give him a national platform as he prepares to challenge Elizabeth Warren for her Senate seat in 2018." PHOTO/CNN Screengrab
