Former LA Host Pleads Not Guilty In Body Shaming Case

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 29TH, 2016 –– Former Playboy playmate, turned radio host, Dani Mathers, pleaded not guilty in court on Monday to body shaming a 70-yr old woman. Prosecutors say Mathers secretly photographed the woman in the nude while she was in the shower area of a Los Angeles fitness center. Richard Winton, an attorney for Mathers, pleaded not guilty on her behalf Monday to charges. According to The LA Times, Mathers 7faces a misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy, having been accused of posting an image of the woman on her Snapchat social media account in early July.

LA City Atty. Mike Feuer said he hoped the case sent a message to others about such behavior, but legal experts said this marks a rare instance in which authorities have brought charges against someone over photos making fun of someone’s weight. Outside of court Monday, defense lawyer Thomas Mesereau said Mathers regrets the events and apologizes for her behavior and he expects the matter to be resolved in a fair manner. Shortly after she posted the image and comments, Mathers issued a statement saying it was absolutely wrong and not what she meant to do. “I know that body-shaming is wrong. That is not the type of person I am,” she wrote. Mathers said the photo was meant to be sent as a private message, but was posted publicly. Mesereau has said his client did nothing illegal. Last month, Feuer condemned Mathers’ actions saying, "While body-shaming, in itself, is not a crime, there are circumstances in which invading one's privacy to accomplish it can be. And we shouldn’t tolerate that.

Shortly after accusation took place last July, Mathers, and independent contractor, was let go from The Heidi & Frank Show on KLOS/LA. Among her scheduled on-air segments and appearances included segments such as 'Put Your Man Where Your Mouth Is' and 'Under the Covers.' PHOTO/CBS

New NRHOF Inductees Draw Feature In Forbes

7

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 29TH, 2016 –– Titled, 'World's Best Radio Hosts Enshrined In National Radio Hall Of Fame Ceremony , Forbes Contributor Michael Patrick Shiels penned a lengthy spread in Forbes writing "In some respects radio, the most intimate of mediums, has lived by that admonition for decades. There was often peril for that “voice in the night, all alone in the studio,” as Larry King, who first became famous via radio, put it, because when the man behind the microphone, and behind the glass, emerged, the result of a visible voice either destroyed the personal image the 7listener had created and disappointed them – or – as in the Clint Eastwood film “Play Misty For Me,” detailed, gave birth to a stalker!"

Shiels, in attendance at the Radio Hall of Fame annual induction ceremony On November 17, inducted Michael Savage, Delilah, Bob Kingsley, and 7Steve Harvey, along with “Jeff and Jer” (Jeff Detrow and Jerry Cesak), Chicago’s own “Eric and Kathy” (Eric Ferguson and Kathy Hart), Tony Roberts, and, producer “Little” Tommy Sablan; plus, posthumously, Kidd Kraddick, Neil Rogers and executive George Beasley. Shiels gave special notice to Delilah and Jeff and Jer who he says both laughed it up and had the attendees at the gala dabbing their eyes." Props were also given to Scott Shannon who emceed the evening in collaboration with the amiable Jim Bohannon. The NRHOF is chaired by Kraig Kitchin. iHeart Wins Dismissal In Gamco Lawsuit

7

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2016 –– A Delaware judge has ruled that that iHeart media executives didn't violate legal duties to shareholders by selling assets and moving funds from its Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings business to repay the parent company’s debts. According to The San Antonio Express News, Gamco couldn’t make the case that iHeart media executives “extracted a unique benefit' by paying down debt with the advertising unit’s funds that “came at the expense” of other Clear Channel investors, Delaware Chancery Court Judge Joseph Slights concluded in Wednesday’s ruling.

In its lawsuit, Gamco, which owns almost 10 percent of Clear Channel’s shares, targeted an agreement that automatically routes some of Clear Channel’s business revenues to iHeart, saying it hampers opportunities and operations. It also focused on Clear Channel asset sales that allegedly provided iHeart with benefits denied to other investors. The judge also ruled that iHeart directors’ decisions to use Clear Channel funds to repay the parent company’s debts fell within the realm of their business judgment and weren’t a violation of legal duties they owed to investors. 'Most Of The Original Motivations For Having An FCC Have Gone Away' Says Trump Advisor

7

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2016 –– A top adviser to Donald Trump on tech policy matters proposed all but abolishing the nation's telecom regulator last month reports The Washington Post; thus, hinting at possible moves by the president-elect to sharply reduce the FCC's role as a consumer protection watchdog. In an Oct. blog post, Mark Jamison, who was recently named one of two members of Trump's tech policy transition team, concluded there is little need for the agency to exist. "Most of the original motivations for having an FCC have gone away," Jamison wrote. "Telecommunications network providers and ISPs are rarely, if ever, monopolies."

Wapo adds that some critics of the FCC have accused Wheeler of political favoritism, passing rules that appear to disproportionately benefit newer Internet companies and disadvantage big incumbent industries such as cable and telecoms. Jamison said Wheeler has allowed politics to "infiltrate the FCC a lot more than is necessary." "I teach regulation all over the world," said Jamison, who directs the Public Utility Research Center at the University of Florida. "The biggest fight is always to keep politics out of what's supposed to be an independent agency."

In yet another blog post last week, Jamison acknowledged that dissolving an entire federal agency would likely take "strong leadership" to overcome bureaucratic inertia and political opposition to the plan. With the looming prospect of a 3-2 majority in favor of Republicans at the FCC, and in light of Republicans' many objections to Wheeler's tenure, it isn't hard to imagine the GOP moving swiftly to limit the FCC's authority in 2017, tweeted Berin Szoka, president of the right-leaning think tank TechFreedom.

REPORT: Herman Cain To End Syndication In 2017, Staying On WSB Atlanta And Other Cox Stations

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2016 –– Herman Cain announced last Tuesday that he will no longer be syndicated on about 120 stations nationwide starting January 1, 2017 reports the AJC's Rodney Ho. He will remain on five Cox Media Group news/talk radio stations including News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB, WDBO-FM 96.5 in Orlando; KRMG-AM/FM (102.3/740) in Tulsa, Okl.; WHIO AM/FM (95.7/1290) in Dayton, Ohio; and WOKV-AM/FM (690/104.5) in Jacksonville, Fl.

7Cain has been syndicated since January of 2013, taking over for Neal Boortz (shown left with Cain below), who retired from full-time radio work but continues to provide daily commentaries for WSB and runs his own subscription-only podcast. WSB PD Pete Spriggs said this was purely an economic decision.”Syndication isn’t as lucrative as it used to be,” he said. The five Cox stations represent 80 percent of Cain’s listeners and a bulk of the revenue he generates, Spriggs said: “I’d rather see it as the glass as 80 percent as opposed to 20 percent empty.” Spriggs added: “Herman is one of the most amazing talents I have ever worked with. It’s not easy to let go of national syndication. PHOTOS/WSB

Social Media, The 'Perfect Storm' For Fake News

7

THE MOUTH, NOVEMBER 28TH, 2016 –– In Dick Taylor's latest blog 'The Post Fact Society, ' he opines that it mattered little that most of that coverage during the presidential campaign was negative. What mattered was they spelled “Trump” correctly. Taylor adds, "Once upon a time, news came from journalists who worked for newspapers, radio and television stations. Then along 7came the iPhone and social media. Now the same device that could receive text, voice, pictures and video could produce it too. Social media platforms provided mass distribution without a filter (aka an editor). This provided the perfect storm for the production of fake news."

"American citizens soon learned that producing internet stories that would get lots of clicks could be profitable," adds Taylor. Even syndicated radio host Sean Hannity got snared in the volume of fake news being generated and had to apologize for using fake news stories to attack Obama." Taylor points out that things changed when things started being published digitally. "In this world, advertising paid based on clicks. Quantity beat quality. Sensational beat facts. Going viral meant big money to these new media folks. Plus the concept of “native advertising” means that advertising copy is presented to look like editorial. All of these little changes contributed to consumers becoming less and less able to tell real news from what was fake news. SEE BLOG HERE
