Woman Suing Govt. & Howard Stern Over 'Live Broadcast' Of Conversation With IRS Agent

7

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 15TH, 2017 –– A woman is suing the IRS & Howard Stern after an agent calling into the show inadvertently let Stern's listeners overhear their conversation while he was on hold. According to courthousenews.com, Judith Barrigas of Sandwich, Massachusetts, filed the federal complaint Monday in Boston, nearly two years after the incident on May 19, 2015, when she called the IRS to discuss a private tax matter. During her call with agent Jimmy Forsyth, Barrigas allegedly began receiving numerous text messages from unknown people because her call was being broadcast live on “The Howard Stern Show.” In addition to her phone number, which Stern fans promptly began dialing up, Barrigas says other personal information she shared during the course of the call included her tax-return and refund issues, and the details of a repayment plan for certain tax liabilities.

The agent was on hold with Stern when he took the Barrigas call on another line. Barrigas says hundreds of thousands of people have heard her call already thanks to Stern, and that she received hundreds of phone calls about it in the days afterward, “leaving Mrs, Barrigas in a frantic, high anxiety state.” Following a call to a consumer helpline on TV outlet WCVB-, the IRS begin an investigation into the matter and placed Agent Forsythe on administrative leave,” the complaint states. Barrigas seeks punitive damages, alleging invasion of privacy, emotional distress and other claims. READ FULL COMPLAINT HERE

STUDY: Radio's Relationship With 15-24 Yr. Old Women Is Complicated

63% Foresee A Day When They Won't Need To Listen to Radio For Music; Up From 44% Five Years Ago

7THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 15TH, 2017 –– Radio has a complicated relationship with teens and 15-24 year-olds now, according to data to be released tomorrow in Alan Burns and Associates/Strategic Research Solutions’ much anticipated survey of 2000 women between 15 and 54. “Teens still like radio….90% of them say they at least like their favorite radio station, and nearly half (48%) love it” noted Burns founder Alan Burns. “But they are a bit less likely to feel deeply understood by radio. And as tech-savvy as they are, 63% of them can now foresee a day when they will won’t need to listen to radio for music – and that’s up strongly from 44% five years ago.

“Teens are also the generation that most strongly dislike commercials,” added Burns EVP Jeff Johnson, “and that’s one of the reasons in our study we find fewer teens listening to radio.” The study found that 12% of teens do not listen to radio, compared to 6% of the total sample. Results are being released in a series of four webinars, with the first scheduled for this tomorrow, Thursday (Feb. 16) at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific. STUDY: Well Over Half Of Millennial Women Have A Station They Love; That 'Understands' Them

7

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 14TH, 2017 –– According to research being released this week by Alan Burns and Associates and Strategic Solutions Research, 87% of millennial women look forward to listening to radio, and more than three-quarters (79%) of them feel there’s a local radio station that really understands them. “We interviewed over a thousand women born between 1982 and 2002” said Alan Burns, “and well over half of them (57%) have a radio station they love. Millennials are very tech-savvy and when you ask them about radio in general, you’re talking about technology that feels dated to them, so you get a weaker response. But when you narrow it down to specific radio stations, you find a huge store of affection and connection.”

Strategic Solutions Research EVP Hal Rood notes that “a lot of brands would love to have the level of engagement that women have for their favorite radio station. This study reveals how women rate radio not only compared to other purely online music services but also other major brands in their lives. We think the results will surprise most people.” Results are being released in a series of four webinars, with the first scheduled for this Thursday (Feb. 16) at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific. Radio Station In Hot Water With Watchdog Group After Explosive Car Stunt Leaves Ground Crater

7

THE MOUTH, FEBRUARY 14TH, 2017 –– The Rock New Zealand's Thane Kirby and Dunc have been called out by WorkSafe, a safety watchdog group, over a radio stunt that saw a car blown up as unsafe and illegal. According to stuff.com.nz, Thane Kirby organized for his Rock Drive co-host Duncan Heyde's old Honda to be destroyed with 55KG OF EXPLOSIVES! The managing director of a commercial explosives company has contacted WorkSafe with concerns the explosion was "irresponsible" and did not comply with laws around the handling of explosives. The explosives were detonated on January 30 at a rural property in north Auckland.

The explosion was so powerful it left a crater in the ground. A MediaWorks spokesman, which owns The Rock, said the explosion was managed by an explosives "specialist" who assured the station everything was above-board. The car explosion stunt was part of a campaign to draw more likes to the pair's Facebook page. They promised to blow up the car after reaching 5000 likes on the social media site. Kirby did not respond to requests for comment. READ MORE HERE
