Former Host Dave Herman Pleads Not Guilty To (S)exual Abuse Charges

THE MOUTH, MARCH 7TH, 2014 –– Former New York host Dave Herman was arraigned in federal court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted sexual abuse, according to nj.com. As Jockline Daily reported last month (2.19), federal authorities charged the former legendary New York host Dave Herman (shown) with trying to transport a 7-year-old girl to the U.S. Virgin Islands to sexually abuse her. Yesterday, U.S. District Judge Faith Hochberg set June 30th as Herman's trial date for Herman who was then returned into custody. Herman, 77, has been in custody since being arrested last Oct. 24 at the St. Croix airport. Authorities claim Herman went to the airport with the intent of meeting the girl and her mother, so he could then bring the girl to his house and abuse her. If convicted, Herman faces a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison and a maximum term of life. Herman worked for decades on New York’s WNEW-FM during the 1970s on his “Dave Herman Rock and Roll Morning Show." Herman's lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, has said that Herman may ultimately use an entrapment defense in the case, because Herman believes he was set up by the undercover officer. He then said that Herman was interested in meeting the mother, Kris, not the child -- and it was the undercover officer who had pushed the "banter" about the child during her internet chats with Herman.

Student Fulfills Dream, Lands Sole Local Slot On Memphis Station

It Has Been My Dream To Be On The Radio

THE MOUTH, MARCH 7TH, 2014 –– Yes, there are still those who dream of being on the radio. Ben Murray (shown) is apparently one of them. He's a University of Memphis student who, since 2010, has been working primarily as a club jock. But starting today, he'll begin appearing regularly on on FM 101.9 Radio Now on Friday evenings. According to The Daily Helmsman, Murray's break began after befriending one of the station’s staff members at the club. “The station just got a new program director and I was starting to be around the station’s staff more and more. Eventually the director came to the club and heard me spin. He asked me to start deejaying on the radio station every Friday.” “Ever since I’ve started deejaying, it has been my dream to be on the radio,” Murray said. “It’s a big deal because 101.9 doesn’t have any local DJs. The station is all syndicated, so it’s a big deal to me to be the only local DJ on the station.” He adds “DJs are important because they are typically the first people to break songs—play it for everybody else to hear,” Murray said. “It’s how a lot of people hear music for the first time, and, before blogs and music sites, it was the only way people would hear new music for the first time.
