THE MOUTH, APRIL 19TH, 2012 –– He got America hoppin' over 50 years ago on American Bandstand and from there crafted a media empire unlike any before. Sadly, the legendary Dick Clark passed away yesterday morning following a heart attack at 82. From the moment his passing was announced, fans and friends across the world began expressing their thoughts and memories, including some from his closest associates. Nick Verbitsky, Chairman/CEO of United Stations Radio Networks acknowledged him yesterday. Clark was a co-founder and shareholder in the company. Verbitsky, who has been partners with Clark since 1981 through two different incarnations of United Stations commented, "Dick was an icon to many, but a true friend, partner and mentor to those of us who worked closely with him." Ryan Seacrest, who's career has often been likened to Clark's, said: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life. I idolized him from the start, and I was graced early on in my career with his generous advice and counsel. When I joined his show in 2006 , it was a dream come true to work with him every New Year's Eve for the last 6 years. He was smart, charming, funny and always a true gentleman. Some, like the venerable host Cousin Brucie went live on Sirius XM Ch. 6 at 4:30 yesterday afternoon and stayed on LIVE until 1:20 a.m. He fielded calls from many of rock & roll's biggest stars. To use Barry Manilow's words from 'Bandstand's Boogie,' you gotta believe they're hoppin' in Heaven: "Hey Im makin my mark --- Gee, this joint is jumpin ... Hey, it's Mr. Dick Clark -- What a place you've got here." Photo: Boardwalk

Osmond & Shannon Remember Clark: "A No-Limo Kind of Guy"

THE MOUTH, APRIL 19TH, 2012 –– Gary McNamara & Eric Harley who host Cumulus Media's Red Eye Radio got a behind the scenes look into the life and career of Dick Clark yesterday from a couple of longtime friends of Clark. Donny Osmond, who used Larry King's line in best describing Clark, calling him "a no limo kind of guy. .. likeable and down to earth." Osmond, who along with his sister Marie once had a TV show produced by Clark, shared one of his more fond memories. He recalled the time when Dick intervened between he and Marie following a spat. Apparently, Clark noticed some friction between the two so he stopped the camera and hailed them both backstage. Fearing the worst, he walked up to the pair, put one hand on each of their shoulders and said gently, "Now children!" Scott Shannon who called in later was asked about Clark's early impact on music. "This guy was the gateway to millions of teenagers all across the country," said Shannon. "... he'd sit in his little room, just him and his producer ... and THEY would decide which records they were going to play. He owned 33 DIFFERENT COMPANIES in the music business!" Shannon noted. By the way, the announcer voice at the front of that piece is Ross Mathews. He was most recently the voice on Coast To Coast. LISTEN TO INTERVIEW HERE

Station Fails To Halt Former Hosts' Online Show

THE MOUTH, APRIL 18TH, 2012 –– As more sidelined shows take their talent to the web, here's a story that could very well be a landmark case. According to vindy.com, Judge Charles E. Brown of Stark County Common Pleas Court denied an injunction request by WDJQ-FM/Canton, which sought to halt the former hosts who launched their own online show. Pat DeLuca and Charlotte DiFranco who left the station in February had since started theradiosucks.com WDJQ called this a violation of their noncompete clause. Steve Okey of the Canton-based Okey Law Firm, who represented the hosts told vindy.com, “It’s definitely a first-of-its-kind thing ... I’ve found no cases like this anywhere in the country.” DeLuca and DiFranco hosted the top-rated DeLuca In The Morning on WDJQ-FM show for the past six years, but left in February after failed contract negotiations. White Trash Tweet Delivers #2 Trending Topic In The World For Dave Ryan Show

THE MOUTH, APRIL 18TH, 2012 –– For what is probably the first time in the history of Twitter, a morning radio show started what became the number two trending topic in the WORLD. Tuesday morning, Dave Ryan of KDWB, Minneapolis, was talking to his co-hosts Falen and Crisco (shown above) about a woman who left her baby in her car while getting lottery tickets and Mountain Dew and Dave suggested people Tweet #whitetrashpeopleproblems. They started a few of their own such as, "NASCAR and WWE are on at the same time" or "The Neighbors keep calling the police because my dog barks all the time." Within minutes they were the number four trending topic in Minneapolis. Within an hour, they were number one in the US! And within 90 minutes, it was the number two trending topic IN THE WORLD! They were beat out only by a topic about the boy band "One Direction." Dave was super-excited about it, saying, "We totally didn't expect it, but it's apparently a topic everyone can relate to and laugh at." "Did it make you any money or have a pay-off?" asked Jockline Daily. "Nope," said Dave. "I don't know how to monotize that, but our bosses, Gregg Swedberg and Rich Davis were pretty happy and offered to buy the show lunch at Culver's. So that's good, right?" Right you are, Dave. Right you are.

Boortz then appeared on Fox News’ Hannity last night. While covering several topics on the show’s Great American Panel, fellow panelist Bob Beckel told Tea Partier Jennifer Stefano “You don’t know what the F—you’re talking about.” Beckel, who wasn’t aware they were on the air, apologized immediately. Boortz kidded, “This thing about me guesting on The Five? Maybe I'd better rethink that.” Yesterday on his nationally syndicated show, Boortz defended Beckel (one liberal Boortz is very fond of) by saying, “Beckel apologized. It was a heartfelt apology and it should be enough.” WATCH VIDEO HERE

DIAMOND: "...So Close I Almost Got Clocked By The Wing"

7

THE MOUTH, APRIL 18TH, 2012 –– The Space Shuttle 'Discovery' is the oldest shuttle in the fleet. 39 missions into space including the 100th flight, and the next flight after the two tragic shuttle accidents. Discovery is also the shuttle that carried and put the Hubble telescope into orbit. "Most who have flown her say she is their favorite of the fleet as well," says MIX 107.3 D.C.'s Jack Diamond who's also a camera buff. Yesterday he headed to Dulles Airport to snap a few photos of the heroic bird who'll be housed on permanent display in The National Air and Space Museum at Dulles. "I was so close to the 747 and the shuttle, I almost got clocked by the wing! Can you imagine the commotion if I HAD been knocked out by the 747 wing? The pilot would have had to pull over. We would exchange insurance cards and personal info," said Diamond. He added "I want to thank NASA for the amazing aerial show that SO many saw in Washington, DC today, as Space Shuttle Discovery flew to her new home at the National Air and Space Museum. I can't even begin to put into words my unbridled American pride at the sight, the thoughts of all the brave men and women involved in the project, and tears of sorrow for those lost. Standing
on the tarmac at Dulles, overcome by so many emotions, I could barely hold my camera. Just one picture
for now. An album later. Welcome home Discovery!"
