Over 90 College Radio Stations Unite For 'Vinylthon' And At Least One Show Goes All-Vinyl; From Turntables Only

7

THE MOUTH, APRIL 20TH, 2018 –– Over 90 college stations across the USA, and some stations internationally, will come together to celebrate the unique music format of vinyl for the third college radio Vinylthon on Saturday, April 21st (also the 11th annual Record Store Day). The Vinylthon is being organized by the College Radio Foundation and will see college radio stations 7broadcasting special programs entirely with music played from vinyl records. Eighteen stations have also pledged to broadcast a full 24 hours of nothing but vinyl music.

According to Paste Magazine, Record Store Day has become a bona fide event, with independent shops all over the world Along the way, it has become a key driver behind the recent growth in vinyl sales. Last year, more than 14 million new records were sold (the most in the Nielsen era since 1991), accounting for 14 percent of all physical media sold.

7Not to miss the opportunity, Dwyer & Michaels (inset) of Townsquare Media's 97X Quad Cities, IA decided to spend today playing ALL VINYL - ON TURNTABLES! Bill Michaels tells Jockline, "The idea came from a conversation about if people truly can hear a difference (vinyl vs. digital). Playing all of our music off records for the day is similar to the trend in television of performing an episode live (Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar). The content is the same but there’s a little risk in how it’s being presented."

Michaels says, " We had to make sure we could still cue up a record. Can people hear a difference? “On the radio? Absolutely not. But I’m betting they’ll tune in to see if they can.” There wasn’t a single turntable in the station (imagine). Greg Dwyer brought in one (follow arrow in top photo) that’s broadcast quality and we had to borrow another one. For sound deadening, I think we’re using a couple seat cushions from his patio furniture. For records...we did our best to sift through our record collections. As far as requests: “Uhh, we’ll try to get it on for ya” I guess."

[WATCH] Carrie Underwood Reveals Details Of Injury On Bobby Bones Show

7

THE MOUTH, APRIL 20TH, 2018 –– Carrie Underwood joined iHeartRadio's Bobby Bones Show in Nashville on Thursday, marking the first interview she has done since returning to the stage after suffering injuries from a fall last year. Bones asked the "Cry Pretty" singer, "Your wrist, what happened?" "The most frustrating part was trying to work out with a broken wrist, and just how much it can throw off your world," Underwood explained. "I was taking the dogs out, and just tripped. I went to catch myself and just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else I would be perfectly fine, but it was one step that messed everything up."

No one had seen the country singer outside of a few photos on social media until Sunday night's ACM Awards. She didn't walk the red carpet, and had fans concerned at what she was going to look like. Bones told her "I don't see it." Underwood said she's been very fortunate in the healing process. When the accident happened the music industry was shutting down for the holidays, so she was able to take time and heal. There were a lot of uncertainties for her around the injuries, especially to her face, and wasn't sure if the scar would ever go away. Carrie also shared that she's in the studio finishing up her new album Cry Pretty, that's set to be released in September. WATCH HERE - PHOTO Zack Massey / iHeartRadio
