JACOBS: More People Listening To Radio Beyond 'Traditional' A/F Radio

THE MOUTH, MAY 15TH, 2018 –– In Fred Jacob's latest blog titled 'The Rapidly Changing Face Of Radio,’ he points out that it's not much of a leap to assume the rapidly changing content consumption trendline in television is already making its way over to radio. The big TV networks have begun to accept these sweeping changes as the real deal, as they focus more on monetizing 7streaming and on-demand formats. On the radio side of the spectrum, the on-demand wave isn’t as sweeping – yet. But our newest Techsurvey suggests more people are listening to “radio” without using a traditional AM/FM radio.

Jacobs says, "We have been tracking usage to our stakeholder radio stations, and this year we had a record-setting base of more than 560 stations. That tells us there’s growing interest – and concern – in the radio business about tech trends and how they impact broadcast radio today – and will continue to do so in the future. In one question series, we ask 7respondents to think back to the prior week to recall how they listened to the stakeholder station. We provide them with the many different platforms from which consumers can now access “radio,’ and ask them to use percentages to tell us how they use the various distribution outlets now available to them. The “blue slices” represent traditional radio listening on “regular radios.” In TS 2018, that adds up to 70% of consumption, versus 27% of listening on digital platforms – computer streaming, mobile apps, podcasts, and yes, even smart speakers. They continue to add up, providing us with a glimpse of where the digital puck is moving. Daena Kramer Named GSM For Alpha San Jose

THE MOUTH, MAY 15TH, 2018 –– Alpha Media, San Jose, CA has named Daena Kramer its General Sales Manager. Kramer started her radio career in Las Vegas, NV with CBS Radio in 2007. THE MOUTH, MAY 15TH, 2018 –– Westwood One News' Karin Caifa (inset) will cover the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on May 19 in London exclusively for the network and its affiliates. Caifa will travel to London from her base in Washington, D.C. for coverage of all the pre-wedding festivities and the Saturday wedding ceremony at Windsor Castle. Afterwards, the newlyweds will greet guests outside the chapel, then travel in a two mile procession around the town of Windsor. NRHOF Announces 2018 Nominees

THE MOUTH, MAY 14TH, 2018 –– Voting for the 2018 National Radio Hall of Fame Inductees begins today. The 24 nominations in six categories were determined by the organization’s Nominating Committee. Four of those categories will be voted on by a voting participant panel comprised of nearly 1,000 industry professionals. They’ll receive confidential ballots from the online voting service, Votem, which is also used by the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Votes will be tallied by certified public accounting firm Miller Kaplan Arase, LLP. The other two categories will be voted on by the public, also via Votem. Public voting commences June 4 for eight nominations for Music Format On-Air Personality and Spoken Word On-Air Personality. Inductees will be announced June 25.

Induction Ceremony Travels For First Time To NYC Landmark 'Guastavino's'

THE MOUTH, MAY 14TH, 2018 –– This year's NRHOF induction ceremony will be held Thursday, Nov. 15 for the first time at New York City landmark Guastavino’s (shown above) located in midtown Manhattan. According to its website, originally called The Blackwell's Island Bridge, the Queensboro Bridge (below) opened to traffic on March 30th, 1909. The area underneath the bridge consisted of a canopy of tile vaults 7designed by Rafael Guastavino, an architect from Barcelona. Guastavino worked with his son to develop the area into commercial space. This served as a year-round marketplace where vendors sold fruits and vegetables, quickly becoming known as Bridgemarket.

7In addition to selecting this year's new venue, The National Radio Hall of Fame Chairman Kraig Kitchin says, “I personally appreciate the challenging task that our Nominating Committee accepts each year to officially nominate talent from an infinite list of deserving individuals." PODCASTS: Spotify Teams With NPR To Add Its 'Colossal' Podcasts Catalogue

Michael Coover Named Exec. Producer For Orange & Blue Denver
