WWO's Mutual Radio To Air Ali-Liston Fight On 50th Anniv.

7

THE MOUTH, MAY 22ND, 2015 –– Monday’s Memorial Day holiday is also the 50th anniversary of the second Muhammad Ali – Sonny Liston fight, which took place 50 years ago on May 25, 1965 in Lewiston, Maine. This fight was noteworthy for a number of reasons: a first round knockout by Ali with a “phantom punch” to preserve his title; Ali had changed his name from Cassius Clay since the first fight but ring announcers still frequently referred to him as Cassius Clay; Ali was the villain and you can hear him booed by the crowd. There was also much speculation that the fight was fixed and Liston had taken a dive.

Westwood One News will be airing Westwood One’s Mutual Radio exclusive blow-by-blow broadcast of the fight in its entirety, on Monday’s anniversary, on “The Jim Bohannon Show.” Reports and excerpts will also air on “America in the Morning,” in Westwood One newscasts, and will be made available to Westwood One News affiliates. Spotify Expands Lineup With Podcasts, News Radio And Video

Spotify Chief Noted Hires From Radio During Press Conference

THE MOUTH, MAY 21ST, 2015 –– Spotify says it is expanding its lineup to include podcasts, news radio and video streaming. According to twcc.com, CEO Daniel Ek (shown) said that the new service launches this week in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Sweden. The extra content, from partners such as Comedy Central, BBC and ESPN, will be available for both free and premium customers.

Paul Verna, senior analyst at research firm eMarketer says Spotify's video addition is a "logical extension of the company's success in digital music streaming, since these are complementary businesses that use much of the same technology infrastructure, marketing expertise, and vendor relationships." Verna said the maneuver suggests that Spotify "sees a business opportunity in digital video advertising, which is a much larger and faster-growing sector than Spotify's core business of digital music."

According to The Guardian, on the heels of Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe and other radio colleagues being hired by Apple, during Spotify’s press event this week, Ek made a point of praising some of his company’s hires from the world of radio, too. Spotify says its main focus will continue to be music.
