Casey Kasem's Widow Won't Face Elder Abuse Charges

Daughter To Seek Charges In Washington State

THE MOUTH, MAY 26TH, 2015 –– Citing insufficient evidence, Los Angeles prosecutors have rejected filing elder abuse charges against Casey Kasem's widow, Jean Kasem. According to NBC 7News, a charge evaluation sheet released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office stated there is insufficient evidence to file charges against Jean Kasem who was stripped of control over his medical care in his final days.

Kerri Kasem said in a statement Friday she was upset by the decision and would seek charges against her stepmother in Washington state. "The Los Angeles County District Attorney, with her professed interest in ending elder abuse, could do more," Kerri Kasem's statement read. According to the report, an email message sent to Jean Kasem's attorney wasn't returned Friday afternoon.

Casey Kasem died last June in Washington state after his wife took him from a medical facility where he was receiving around-the-clock care. His daughter, Kerri Kasem, was named his conservator and sought elder abuse charges against her stepmother.

[LISTEN] Computers Judge What Makes Perfect Radio Voice

7

THE MOUTH, MAY 26TH, 2015 –– A few weeks ago, NPR's All Tech Considered asked the audience to send voice samples to analyze. Those samples were put through an algorithm to figure out what kind of voice would make an appealing radio host. NPR's Audie Cornish (shown) spoke with actor Wilbur Fitzgerald after early a thousand listeners sent in their samples back in March. A company named Jobaline (JOB A LINE) created software to assess the voices of job candidates for potential employers. CEO Luis Salazar as for radio, " You want somebody who's engaging because it's a radio show, but you want somebody soothing, which seems to be the key characteristic of hosts of NPR.

Cornish then played a few samples of people saying "I'm (name), and this week on All Tech Considered." After listenin, Cornish was somewhat surprised how some voices didn't make the cut. "All right, so we have to admit, we were also struck by the voices that the computer did not rank as highly and then played a few samples. LISTEN HERE

WWO's Mutual Radio To Air Ali-Liston Fight On 50th Anniv.

7

THE MOUTH, MAY 22ND, 2015 –– Monday’s Memorial Day holiday is also the 50th anniversary of the second Muhammad Ali – Sonny Liston fight, which took place 50 years ago on May 25, 1965 in Lewiston, Maine. This fight was noteworthy for a number of reasons: a first round knockout by Ali with a “phantom punch” to preserve his title; Ali had changed his name from Cassius Clay since the first fight but ring announcers still frequently referred to him as Cassius Clay; Ali was the villain and you can hear him booed by the crowd. There was also much speculation that the fight was fixed and Liston had taken a dive.

Westwood One News will be airing Westwood One’s Mutual Radio exclusive blow-by-blow broadcast of the fight in its entirety, on Monday’s anniversary, on “The Jim Bohannon Show.” Reports and excerpts will also air on “America in the Morning,” in Westwood One newscasts, and will be made available to Westwood One News affiliates.
