More Fallout From Steve Gleason Bit; Cable Channel Drops Fired Host's Show THE MOUTH, JUNE 20TH, 2013 –– Add TV to the list of lost ties for one of three hosts cut from 790 The Zone/Atlanta following its Steve Gleason, ALS bit. According to The AJC's Rodney Ho, Cable network CSS has also decided to end Nick Cellini's (right) weekly sports show. In a statement by CSS, they wrote: “We apologize to our viewers who were offended by the grossly inappropriate and insensitive comments made during Monday’s simulcast airing of 790 The Zone’s Mayhem in the AM program, and want to make clear that the opinions and actions of the radio hosts do not reflect those of our network. In addition to prohibiting these commentators from appearing in any future simulcasts, Nick Cellini will no longer be appearing on presentations of Dantanna’s Late Shift.” CSS will continue to air whatever morning show the Zone chooses to air." Meanwhile, Ho says Steak Shapiro's "Atlanta Eats" weekly show on CBS and Peachtree TV is still moving forward as of yesterday, although he and the other Mayhem hosts are off CBS's "Sportsline" show on Saturdays.

CBS Atlanta Terminates Deal With 790 The Zone In Wake Of Hosts' Firing; Gleason Accepts Apologies THE MOUTH, JUNE 19TH, 2013 –– In the wake of this week's firing of Steve "Steak" Shapiro, Chris Dimino and Nick Cellini at Atlanta 790/The Zone, CBS Atlanta has terminated its arrangement with with the station. According to The AJC's Rodney Ho, GM Trey Fabacher said the trio were the primary talent on the hour-long weekly Saturday evening "CBS Atlanta Sportsline" program at 7 p.m. Without them, he said, CBS Atlanta had grounds to end the arrangement. Plans are now reportedly underway to hire a new sports director in the next few weeks. Meanwhile, Steve Gleason released his own statement yesterday and accepted the apologies of the fired hosts, stating "... the DJs have provided genuine apology. Received and accepted. We have all made mistakes in this life. How we learn from our mistakes is the measure of who we are." During the segment, two of the on-air personalities took a call from a third host who pretended to be Gleason using a robotic voice and telling a series of jokes and eventually asked the two others to do him a favor by smothering him.
FIRED HOST: If I Were Listening In A Car, I Would Have Been Offended [VIDEO] THE MOUTH, JUNE 19TH, 2013 –– Steak Shapiro (shown), one of three hosts fired from Atlanta's 790/The Zone following it's bit mocking a former NFL players who suffers from ALS, admits he too would have been offended If he had been listening from his car. In an interview with CNN's Brooke Baldwin, he said "You walk a fine line trying to be somewhat on the edge," Shapiro said. "We blew it. We blew it in a huge way." He explained that it all started as the show's crew tossed around ideas during a break. The Falcons and Saints are big rivals and it turned out that Steve Gleason, the ex-Saint who now battles ALS, had been the guest writer for Peter King's column in this weeks SI.com. They decided to spoof Gleason's illness, specifically, the fact he speaks with a synthetic voice and featured punchlines with knock-knock jokes "Smother me, do me a favor." Shapiro offered no defense for the segment. "The pressure is to try to do a good radio show, and that wasn't a good moment," Shapiro said. "It was a horrible moment." WATCH VIDEO
Fred Jacobs Weighs In Atlanta Mayhem: "Another Black Mark On The Industry" THE MOUTH, JUNE 19TH, 2013 –– Make now mistake about it: when it comes to great talent and content, there's no bigger fan or supporter than consultant, researcher and visionary Fred Jacobs (shown), of the Detroit based, Jacobs Media. No sooner had the yesterday's news that “Mayhem In The Morning” was given the ax by Lincoln Financial’s 790 The Zone/Atlanta he penned in his latest blog "Stupid DJ Tricks." "The story really isn’t about whether they should have been suspended, fired, or disciplined," he writes "What makes this disaster “news” is that it keeps happening. Again and again." He adds "Now we’ve all been there – a morning show, DJ, or talk host goes off, does something embarrassing – and management is left to clean up the mess, apologize, or give out the old wink and a slap on the wrist. And because so many stations push talent to be more outrageous, crossing the line is always a possibility that many PDs and managers accept and face. But in the case of this latest incident, you have to wonder why radio programmers cannot get out in front of these problems before they go nuclear. In this case, you have a former NFL player (and his family) that have been terribly offended, the New Orleans community (where he played) up in arms, a station in turmoil, and a morning show suddenly out of work ... beyond that, another black mark on an industry that has become too famous for tasteless, moronic, offensive humor. That’s the part that you don’t see. READ ENTIRE BLOG HERE Fred Jacobs leads the highly anticipated "The Motor City Invades Boot Camp" session at this year's 25th Annual MSBC In Chicago.
