‘Kane Show’ Host Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Wife; Calls Accusation 'Unfounded' THE MOUTH, JUNE 21ST, 2016 –– Calling it "..an accusation that’s unfounded,” Peter Deibler, best known as Kane, of the syndicated “The Kane Show,” was arrested in Maryland on Friday after his soon-to-be ex-wife accused him of second-degree assault, according to court records reports The Washington Post. On Monday (June 20th,), Montgomery County District Judge William Simmons issued a temporary protective order related to the alleged assault, which took place on May 25, court records say. The temporary order bars Deiber from contacting his wife or entering the Potomac home where she lives. Kane and his wife, Natasha Deibler have been locked in a nasty divorce, with many of its details being discussed both on his nationally syndicated show, which airs from HOT 99.5 FM in Rockville, and on his wife's personal blog. According to Natasha Deibler’s protective order petition, she said that on May 25, her husband grabbed her and threw her into a wall in the presence of the couple’s daughters, resulting in a sprained knee, head injury, bruises and a black eye. According to online records, Natasha Deibler accused him assault that same day. Last Friday Deibler posted a $3,500 bond and was released from custody. “It’s an accusation that’s unfounded,” Peter Deibler said by phone of the assault charge. Yesterday he was absent from his show, but tweeted pictures of himself inside an elevator, where he claimed to be stuck and unable to get to work. “First day of summer, I have $500 to give away today at 7:45est…AND I’M STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR AND HAVE TO PEE!” he posted (right)

The Generational Divide Getting Larger Blogs Steve Goldstein THE MOUTH, JUNE 21ST, 2016 –– In Steve Goldstein's last blog, he reports that new data shows that more Americans get their news from social media, than any other source (with apologies to ABC News for borrowing the phrase). The implications are profound if not yet totally clear as all of this has happened with great speed. Even a digital based news organization such as Buzzfeed, now sees 75% of its traffic originate from Facebook and other social sources. Recent data from Reuters vividly shows just how significant the differences are by each age demographic. While it is not surprising to see TV and newspaper losing dominance with younger groups, this data shows even 45-54 year-olds leaning to online news sources. This certainly was the impetus for a venerable old-school media company, The Tribune Company, to change its name this week. However the name TRONC, which is short for Tribune Online Content is unlikely to change much except generate a good chuckle over another goofy name for a company trying to finds its place in a rapidly altered media world. A similar digital divide is occurring with audio. The rapid ascension of the smartphone has changed how many listen. Edison Research reports 68% of 13-34 year-olds listen to audio on their smartphones daily. That is a sea change from linear AM/FM listening to on-demand .. Without a direct conduit to consumers on their smartphones, many legacy media brands - not just newspaper companies - will be coming up with their own odd names to try and remain relevant. Steve Goldstein will be a featured presenter at MSBC with "The ABC'$ Of Podcasting" - set for August 11 & 12 Atlanta - READ BLOG HERE

NBC'S 'Today' Show To Profile Elvis Duran On July 4th THE MOUTH, JUNE 20TH, 2016 –– It’s been 20 years since Elvis Duran segued from afternoons to mornings on Z100 and then hosting one of radio's top-rated nationally syndicated shows on Premiere Networks. Meanwhile, he's landed a regular segment on NBC’s “Today Show” with his “Artist of the Month” segment and on “Entertainment Tonight.” On July 4th, “Today” will profile Duran in a special segment. In an interview with The New York Post, he explains the advantages of radio over other media: "It’s unscripted, it’s every day and our listeners are used to us. We talk about our personal lives … we do a lot of things on our radio show that they don’t do on TV … where everything is scripted, to-the-second, lots of chefs in kitchen telling you what you can’t do. On our show we just go in and do what we want, and it succeeds." Duran adds, "Being a “radio guy” helps in a way because there’s spontaneity there — I’m not afraid to say what’s on my mind. It could hurt in some ways, where people who run TV networks are like, “Oh my God, this guy is talking about whatever he wants, we gotta control that.” So I can see how it works both ways. Elvis says he'd like to dabble in TV a little more, "but only if it’s right. I’m not going to go out there and beg anyone for a job. I refuse to audition for any TV [projects] because I don’t need it. So many people in TV look at me and go, “You’re not really the TV type.” PHOTO/Premiere READ ARTICLE HERE
Cedar Rapids Host Not Taking Life For Granted Following Battle With 'Flesh-Eating Disease' THE MOUTH, JUNE 20TH, 2016 –– KMRY Cedar Rapids host Ricky Bartlett had part of his left leg amputated below the knee 18 months ago after contracting necrotizing fasciitis, commonly known as flesh-eating disease. According to thegazette.com, “He was given a second chance at life and he decided to live it wholeheartedly,” said Jennifer Bartlett, Ricky’s wife of 22 years. Ricky said he believes he got the infection during a trip to Wyoming and South Dakota in 2010. While he was in the Badlands of South Dakota, one of his blistered feet became stuck in the mud. However, it wasn’t until October 2014 that he saw any symptoms. Soon, he became very ill. On Dec. 6, 2014, his wife Jennifer demanded her husband go to the emergency room. “They rolled me into the lobby and I passed out. I woke up and my leg was gone.” Ricky was transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where medical staff several times told Jennifer he wasn’t going to make it. But fortunately, he did make it “I have this mentality now of ‘if I can defeat this, I can do anything. Take advantage of the opportunities you have.’” Ricky received his first prosthetic in early February of 2015. And in June 2015, he landed a job at KMRY, as host of the mid-morning show. Ricky had worked in radio in the past, but was most recently in the IT field — to which he couldn’t return because of physical restrictions. Station Manager Eric Walker said he hired Ricky the same day they met after he felt “an immediate connection.” Since then, Bartlett “has been a great asset to the station." READ ARTICLE HERE
WALTER SABO: 'All That Matters Is What's On The Air' THE MOUTH, JUNE 20TH, 2016 –– Walter M. Sterling (aka, Walter Sabo) started his radio show on a dare from Chris Oliviero, EVP Programming for CBS Radio. Chris asked, "Have you ever thought of doing a talk show?" Sabo, a longtime media content builder, visionary and much in demand guest speaker, finally agreed after some coaxing and took a slot on Philidelphia's WPHT under the moniker Walter M Sterling. Following great response and sudden interest by other stations to add his show nationally, Jockline reached out to Sabo to find out what other advice, if any, he may now offer to talent after taking a seat behind the mic himself. "Unique always wins," says Sabo. "When casting stations, I have always listened for non-duplicable talent. Honestly i never listen to other talk show hosts and I think it messes up a talent when they copy from colleagues. It dilutes talent. As a manager I have NEVER suggested that a host listen to another host for guidance. Develop your gifts, trust your gut, pay very close attention to events in your life and no attention to what other hosts do. Sabo adds, "Being on the air has reminded me of the incredible importance of a world class chief engineer like Dave Skalish at WPHT and an on-top-of things PD like Jared Hart. Little things to management are big things to talent—successful management knows and acts on this fact: All that matters is what’s on the air.” I’m deeply gratified by the number and quality of owners/CEOs who say they want to build entire stations around the proven conversation of daily life. Meanwhile, check out Sabo.. I mean Mr. Sterling's website HERE
