THE MOUTH, JUNE 23RD, 2016 –– iHeartMedia St. Louis announced Pride Radio St. Louis, the pulse of LGBT St. Louis. Pride Radio St. Louis is iHeartMedia’s fourth radio station in the country with programming devoted to local Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) listeners and allies. The new station kicked off commercial-free yesterday, June 22 at 2pm CT.

NPR One Streaming App Drawing Younger Listeners
THE MOUTH, JUNE 23RD, 2016 –– Thanks to it's new streaming app, NPR is drawing new and younger listeners to public radio since its launch in 2014. According to Current, The largest age group listening to NPR One is 25- to 34-year-olds, with 40 percent of listeners under 35. More than a third of users who answered NPR surveys said they never or only occasionally listen to broadcast radio. And the audience is sticking around. According to NPR data, the average user listens to NPR One for nearly two and a half hours a week.
There's an upside for broadcast radio as well: More than a quarter said they are listening more to NPR on terrestrial radio after starting to use NPR One. NPR One gives listeners a continuous stream of NPR News segments, mixed with local coverage targeted to the listener’s location. Nearly all NPR member stations that aren’t music-only can be found through NPR One, according to the network. Of those, about two-thirds are contributing local content to the platform. “That number continues to grow as we make it easier to do so,” said Tamar Charney (inset), local editorial lead for NPR One, who was hired earlier this year for the new position after working as program director for Michigan Radio. NPR hired Charney to “make sure that NPR One feels local, better represents local news and shows, and directs NPR One’s growth to support station priorities." BBC wins Broadcaster of the Year in New York The winners of the New York Festivals® International Radio Programme Awards have been announced at an Awards Gala at New York City’s Manhattan Penthouse. The title of Broadcaster of the Year was awarded to the BBC. London-based TBI Media earned Production Company of the Year. The 2016 Grand Jury honored Athena Media, the BBC, and TBI Media with the Grand Award. The BBC also earned 1 Grand Award, 7 Gold trophies, 7 Silver, 5 Bronze, 5 Finalist Certificates and two UNDPI Awards (1 Silver trophy and 1 Bronze).

ABC News Takes Murrow Award For Overall Excellence A Third Year In A Row
ESPN, NBC, CBS Gather Multiple Awards
THE MOUTH, JUN22ND, 2016 –– RTDNA has announced the winners of the 2016 National Edward R. Murrow Awards, which recognize outstanding work produced by radio, television and online news organizations around the world. RTDNA received more than 4,300 entries during the 2016 awards season, setting an all-time record for the fourth year in a row.
For the third year in a row, ABC News Radio and ABC News (television) both won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence at the network level. ABC's radio team also won awards for Breaking News 
and Hard News. ESPN took home three Murrow Awards. CBS News won for Hard News and Writing, and NBC News won for Newscast and Continuing Coverage.
"We present the Murrow Awards not only to recognize outstanding journalism, but to inspire radio, television and digital newsrooms across the country," said RTDNA Executive Director Mike Cavender. "Journalists can learn from each other and push each other to find new and better ways to serve their communities."
Commenting on ABC's awards, Steve Jones said "Today the ABC News Radio staff learned that for the third year in a row we have been recognized by our peers for the Overall Excellence of the work we do. It was one of three awards ABC News Radio won (8 total for ABC News!). To win the Overall Excellence award once is an accomplishment but to win for the third year in a row with our ABC News TV colleagues is remarkable and humbling.
NAB Introduces Inaugural Pilot Innovation Challenge
THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2016 –– The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), through its PILOT program (formerly NAB Labs) is accepting submissions for its first-ever Innovation Challenge. The PILOT Innovation Challenge will recognize creative ideas that leverage technological advances in the production, distribution and display of engaging content. The program will also 
provide support to the winners for development. The submission deadline is September 23. This year’s challenge question is “How can local television and radio broadcasters engage their communities with next generation content on any device, whether big, small or moving?”
“The broadcast industry is continuously evolving and exploring new ways to produce and deliver engaging content,” said Executive Director of PILOT John Clark. “The PILOT Innovation Challenge works to identify creative ideas and offer solutions and strategies that benefit broadcasters and consumers alike.” A panel of judges from the broadcast, venture capital, media and technology industries will choose 10 semi-finalists in late September. A smaller panel of judges will determine the winners. The first place winner will receive $20,000, second place $15,000 and third place $10,000 to assist with prototyping the winning concepts.

ESPN Chicago 1000 Becomes Flagship Station For Notre Dame
THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2016 –– ESPN Chicago 1000 has reached a multiyear agreement to broadcast every Notre Dame football and men’s basketball game beginning with the 2016-17 seasons. The deal returns the Fighting Irish to Chicago’s No. 1 sports station, which was previously the home for Notre Dame sports from 1999-2005. ESPN Chicago 1000 will produce Notre Dame basketball games, while IMG will produce Notre Dame football games, as part of IMG’s Notre Dame Football Network. The Fighting Irish will kick off their 2016 football season on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Texas.

CONDOLENCES: Legendary WMCA/New York 'Good Guy' "Dandy" Dan Daniel Passes Away
THE MOUTH, JUNE 22ND, 2016 –– The self-described “world’s most adequate swinging disc jockey,” spent decades on New York radio stations beginning with WMCA in 1961. According to cbslocal.com, His smooth voice was loved by many. Over the years, Daniel made the rounds on several local stations, including WHN, WYNY, and most recently WCBS-FM. He was known for mixing songs and segues with the smoothest banter on the radio.
Daniel’s oldest son, Chris Daniel, put out a message saying his father died “suddenly” Tuesday morning. The cause of Daniel’s death was not indicated. Following the news, radio videographer, Art Vuolo produced a 6 1/2 minute tribute, which includes his video aircheck with the late host. WATCH HERE
