Station Catches Flak Over Hottest TV Newswoman Contest THE MOUTH, JULY 16TH, 2013 –– Looks like TV may not appreciate "hottest" men or women contests the way radio does. At least not for one station in Maine. According to The Sun Journal, an online beauty contest posted by host Fred Miller of radio station WDEA posted a poll on the station’s website Monday morning asking readers to vote for “the hottest TV newswoman in Maine.” The poll lists six TV news reporters and anchors.has outraged the news director for two of the state’s broadcast TV stations. Mike Redding, news director for NBC network sister stations WLBZ in Bangor and WCSH in Portland had two of his reporters, Melissa Kim and Jackie Ward included. He called the poll “sexist and objectifying” and said it reduced the journalists to their appearance while glossing over the serious work they do to produce and report the news. Not everyone was offended. Nicole Gerber, an anchor WVII, Bangor’s Fox affiliate, posted a link to the poll on Twitter and Facebook on Monday morning, asking her fans to “send some support.” PHOTO/Stock Photo
MOTION: Rick Moorten Heads To Jammin' 790 San Diego; Dallas' Voice Of Classic Rock, Jon Dillon, Exits KZPS-FM; THE MOUTH, JULY 16TH, 2013 –– It's been confirmed that Texas Hall of Fame Announcer, Jon Dillon, longtime afternoon drive host on KZPS-FM is no longer employed by the station. According to The Dallas News, Dillon‘s career dates back to 1969, when he was once the sole voice of KFAD-FM. Next came KRLD-AM/FM. In ’73, he began his legendary stint at KZEW-FM where he broadcast for 14 years. He joined KZPS-FM (92.5) in '89. “There was no one who was that cool and who retained that cool like Jon Dillon,” says author Joe Nick Patoski, a jock before he picked up a pen. “He was the guy I wanted to be when I worked at KFAD, because he was successful. Jon was the guy who more than anyone brought progressive rock to the media market. He was throwing down this new music in a way most of the listening audience had never heard before. Before Redbeard, there was Dillon, and there remains Dillon to this very day. Think about that.” Patoski added: “For Jon’s voice not to be on the air is a tragedy for one of the most storied radio markets in America.” ––––––– Rick Moorten is making a return trip to San Diego where he'll handle mornings at Jammin' Z90. This marks a return visit to the city where Rick once served as a member of Jeff & Jer' Show on Star 94.1. Moorten will debut on Jammin' Z90 on JULY 31. He arrives from WILD 101/Boise

Reportedly, Sennett is working closely with Chicago radio legend Steve Dahl, the former WLUP-FM personality (shown) who first sparked the stunt. Disco Demolition fuse 34 years ago. GRAM publisher, Larz, says Frank Sennett is looking to connect with people who were at the ballpark that fateful night and wish to tell stories of what they experienced. Those who would like to share their "Disco Demolition" memories should reach out to Sennett via email at Frank@Dahl.com. As for the actual book, Frank Sennett responded via Twitter to "Disco Demolition" posting "No deal at the moment. I'm helping Steve put his book project together."

'Knock, Knock' Attorney Was Once A Radio Host THE MOUTH, JULY 15TH, 2013 –– Yup, the same guy who didn't get a laugh with his opening knock, knock joke was once a radio host in LA, Philadelphia and Toronto. Back in the 70's, while West began his law studies at Loyola University in LA, he was an air talent on KROQ. From there he left for WMMR/Philly where he worked from 1977 and 1978 for PD Jerry Stevens. West received his bachelor's and master from Penn State. He then moved to Toronto's CHUM-FM. West raised eye-brows during his opening statement of the Zimmerman/Martin trial when he opened with "Knock, knock. Who's there? George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman who? Congratulations, you're on the jury." Maybe the joke explained his jump to law.
