Former Q92 Canton Morning Show Prevail In Webcasts Non-Compete Case

THE MOUTH, JULY 25TH, 2012 –– In what could be a landmark decision, Pat DeLuca (shown) and Charlotte DiFranco can keep their Internet show streaming, and their former station must now pay them for unused vacation time. According to The Canton Rep, this comes following a Stark County Common Pleas Judge Charles E. Brown Jr.’s order in favor of DeLuca and DiFranco that was filed Tuesday. “That pretty much ends the case,” says their attorney, Steven Okey. As you first read in Jockline Daily back in February, DeLuca and DiFranco hosted mornings on Lexington Township-based Q92 (WDJQ) until their contracts expired Feb. 2. A few weeks later they started their own Web show only to be hit with a claim by their former employer that the webcasts violated a noncompete clause in their contracts. After some legal wrangling, the pair agreed not to use any past broadcasts from their show on Q92. In June, DeLuca and DiFranco asked the judge for a final ruling in their favor. Yesterday, they finally got their wish and DeLuca and DiFranco are free to continue doing their webcasts.

FIGENSHU: "Personalities Are The Brand, Not The Station" [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, JULY 25TH, 2012 –– Nice video chat with MRM's Mark Ramsey and Fig Media 1's Bill Figenshu posted on Ramsey's blog. He writes: "In a content-driven, anything – anytime world, the advantage shifts from radio stations to personalities and the entities that own or license them ... In the long run, fans of radio will be fans of personalities. And how will those fans seek out those personalities? By the names of their stations – or by the much more direct path: The name of the personality? Figenshu tells Ramsey: "Given the technology I'm looking at ... people are going to select their personalities by brand name, not necessarity by stations ... I believe people are loyal to people, not the delivery system." Figenshu adds "The Consumer is now in control ... what time does the morning show begin? The morning show begins when I say it begins." Figenshu opines top personalities now have the opportunity to monetize their brands like never before. WATCH VIDEO HERE

REPORT: Brad Paisley In The Mix For Idol Judge's Seat; Osbourne Leaving AGT?

THE MOUTH, JULY 25TH, 2012 –– More drama yesterday on the talent show's judging scene. First came word of AGT's Sharon Osbourne tweet bombshell to fellow judge Howard Stern, posting “My darling @HowardStern, money is not the reason I’m not returning to @nbcagt, it’s because…” and left it off right there without elaborating. Of course, this sent the twitterverse into a tizzy, but in a subsequent comment from NBC Entertainment head, Bob Greenblatt, he said “I think it’s much ado about nothing.” Meanwhile, over at Fox's American Idol, comes word from Deadline Hollywood that Brad Paisley is being seriously eyed for one of the seats. Writer Nellie Andreeva opines: 'Bringing in a country star as an Idol judge appears logical since the show’s most successful winner to date, Carrie Underwood, is a country singer as are a number of other well-known Idol finalists, including last year’s winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alana.' We're keeping an eye on this one.

Batman's Bale Pays Surprise Visit To Aurora Shooting Victims [VIDEO]

THE MOUTH, JULY 25TH, 2012 –– On the day of the Aurora theater shooting, one of the victims, Carey Rottman (shown), posted on his Facebook wall: "Shot in the leg at Batman. Where is he when you need him. Please pray for everyone there." Well, Rottman got his wish, as Christian Bales paid a very unexpected visit to Aurora yesterday to visit with Rottman and other victims. Arriving in a non studio-related capacity, the Batman star, along with his wife, walked up to an outdoor park where various flowers and arrangements were displayed paying tribute to the victims. Many at first didn't even realize who he was. Bale and his wife even joined in a small prayer circle. A local TV camera crew recognized him and began to approach him for an interview only to be stopped by a man who told them Bale didn't want to be interviewed. He was only there for the victims. The shown photo is from Rottman's FB page where he's posted a number of famous visitors, including politicians and members of the Denver Broncos. WATCH KDVR VIDEO

BURNS STUDY: Girls Just Want To Have Fun

On-Air Fun By Morning Radio Shows Matter To Female Top 40 Listeners

THE MOUTH, JULY 24TH, 2012 –– Apparently, Cyndi Lauper's (shown) '83 hit had it right after all. Girls do want to have fun, especially when it comes to their favorite morning radio shows. According to the latest data from Alan Burns study of women, the closer you get to the heart of Top 40's consumer base, the more important entertaining personalities become - especially in the morning. That conclusion is among the data to be presented this week from Alan Burns and Associates. 7 out of 10 women between 15 and 54 say that a significant reason for listening to the radio is that “some of the people on the radio are entertaining” and CEO Alan Burns says the closer to Top 40's core listener you look, the more important personalities become.“When you start narrowing your focus, from all women to Top 40 cumers, to its P1s, and finally to its Heavy/Deep listeners, every step along that path increases the degree to which women strongly agree with the ‘entertaining people’ statement” said Burns. Burns and Associates surveyed over 2,000 women for this year’s national study of women’s Radio, Music, and Digital Media attitudes and behavior. Results are being revealed in a series of free webinars presented by Triton Digital, with this week’s “Top 40 Deep Dive” scheduled for Thursday at 3:30pm Eastern.
