Opie Has Long Talk With SiriusXM; He And Norton Headed Back

7

7THE MOUTH, JULY 8TH, 2014 –– Leave it to Twitter, the place that literally got longtime Opie And Anthony co-host Anthony Cumia booted following last weeks elongated racist rant, for Opie to set the record straight about his future. He posted yesterday: "Had a long talk with @SiriusXM me and @JimNorton will be back on the radio next monday to start to figure this out." Prior to his meeting, Hughes admitted that he was 'devastated' by the news, but added that he was meeting on Tuesday with SiriiusXM. This followed Cumia's own revelation (JD 7.7.14) via a source in The New York Daily News that he was planning a podcast-styled broadcast from his Long Island residence. The source said Cumia would likely recruit many of the show's regular guests such as Jim Norton (right), Bill Burr, Jim Florentine, Nick DiPaolo and others. While Opie's reply may have put the kibosh on any thoughts of his leaving and joining Cumia, only time will tell which direction the show likely go. Either way, next week could prove quite interesting. Cumia says he will discuss the incident with “TOTAL FREEDOM” this week on his Compound podcast. We'll keep an ear out on this one.

National Talk Host Gets Death Threat: 'You Need To Die, Too'

THE MOUTH, JULY 8TH, 2014 –– It's no secret, issues-oriented talkers draw their share of whackos and have prompted some of the biggest to surround themselves with security. On Monday, twitchy.com r7eported that nationally syndicated talker Dana Loesch, host and author of the upcoming book, "Hands off my gun," was the target of death threats on Twitter from someone identified only as "Gaganna." The tweets were quickly deleted, but not before being captured by Twitchy. "You need to die too with your ugly a**," tweeted "Gaganna." They followed with a message suggesting they know where Loesch lives and would visit violence upon her. "I just found out you live where I live," the tweet read. "[D]on't worry, b***h, ima (sic) find yo (sic) weak a**." Loesch's husband, Chris, posted pictures of the both tweets. After Twitter dropped the account, Loesch thanked them and expressed hope the FBI would track the person down. This isn't the first time Loesch has been targeted with hate on Twitter. "Back in 2009 following another threat, law enforcement and other security told her to get a firearm. The second thing they told her was to get a conceal carry license.

REPORT: Angie Martinez Doubled Salary With Jump To Power 105.1

THE MOUTH, JULY 8TH, 2014 –– As New Yorkers still grapple with the surprising move of Hot 97 mainstay Angie Martinez to Clear Channel's Power 105.1 (also to be heard on The Beat/Miami), it appears there was more to the switch than a change of scenery. Added compensation could 7have been a factor, as well. Sources told Page Six of that Clear Channel, offered Martinez a figure in the “high six figures,” amounting to roughly double her former salary. Martinez told The Breakfast Club in an recent interview that her new job was about growth and new experiences, explaining: "It was time for me to grow and to do things ..." Martinez's first show on Power 105.1 is set for later this month. Meanwhile, there are a ton of rumors swirling as to which host or show could follow Martinez in afternoons on Hot 97. One of the names mentioned is stand-up comedian/radio host Rickey Smiley whose is already syndicated in 70 markets. Our own sources lead us to believe that won't be the case, but we look for news on this soon. In the meantime, Hot 97 Cipha Sounds is covering Angie's former afternoon slot.

REPORT: Anthony Cumia Planning Podcast-Styled Broadcast; Fans Fired Back At SiriusXM

THE MOUTH, JULY 7TH, 2014 –– On the heels of July 4th's radio fireworks involving the firing of Sirius XM host Anthony Cumia, a source tells The New York Daily News that radio is not in his future. Rather, Cumia, half of the Opie and Anthony Show 'plans a live podcast-style broadcast from his Long Island home studio.' The source added that Cumia would likely recruit many of the show's regular guests such as Jim Norton (above left), Bill Burr, Jim Florentine, Nick DiPaolo and others. The rumored move to podcast comes despite an organized effort by nearly 4,000 of his supporters who took to social media to complain to SiriusXM, with many of them threatening to cancel their subscriptions According to thewrap.com, "Many loyal fans vented their frustration on social media by tweeting screenshots of their service cancellation emails, and wrote hashtags of support including #IStandWithAnthony and #CancelSiriusXM. Cumia retweeted many of 7the tweets before deleting most of his Twitter feed, including the controversial comments that led to his termination. What's still unclear is It whether his longtime co-host, Gregg (Opie) Hughes, would be allowed to continue the. program. All of this follows Cumia going on a Twitter tirade (posted 7/2 - see JD story below) after he alleged a black woman assaulted him because of a photo he took with her in the frame. Cumia wrote at least 19 tweets regarding the alleged assault. Not surprisingly, Opie (Gregg Hughes) has remained mum on the story with the exception of a tongue-in-cheek tweet (shown) wondering if he missed anything while off during the holiday week. Cumia says he will discuss the incident with “TOTAL FREEDOM” next week on his Compound podcast.

Anthony Cumia Booted By SiriusXM Following Racist Tirade

THE MOUTH, JULY 4TH, 2014 –– Following yesterday's lead story on Anthony Cumia' racist tirade on Twitter where he claimed a black woman punched him repeatedly in Times Square, the Opie And Anthony show co-host has now been fired by SiriusXM. Cumia
claimed on Wednesday that a woman attacked him when he caught her in a frame while taking photos According to The Daily Mail, "He branded her a 'c***', an 'animal b****' and a 'savage' and said that he hoped 7one of her 'home boys' killed her. Cumia insisted he was not racist, saying 'there is a deep seeded problem with violence in the black community' that no one talked about on SiriusXM. Patrick Reilly, senior vp communications at the satellite radio company, wrote in a statement that the 53-year-old DJ's posts were "abhorrent," and the host was fired on Thursday. "SiriusXM has terminated its relationship with Anthony Cumia of the Opie & Anthony channel. The decision was made, and Cumia informed, late Thursday, July 3 after careful consideration of his racially charged and hate-filled remarks on social media," Reilly stated. "Those remarks and postings are abhorrent to SiriusXM, and his behavior is wholly inconsistent with what SiriusXM represents." Early July 4th, Cumia tweeted: 'Sirius decided to cave and fire me. Welcome to bizarro world. Fired for s*** that wasn't even on the air & wasn't illegal. So, who's next?' 'F*** Sirius.' Cumia has been partners with co-host Greg Opie Hughes for 20 years in a career that has been laden with controversy. They were fined $21,000 for shows from between 2000 and 2001, in which a 17-year-old girl was told to take off her underwear and rub a telephone over herself. In 2004, Viacom - the parent company of CBS Radio/Infinity-owned stations - had to pay $3.5 million to cancel all pending indecency claims against the show after a segment called 'Sex for Sam' encouraged people to have sex in public places.
