Popular Minny Host Quits In The Middle Of His Show

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 ––According to twincities.com, Jason Lewis (R) told his boss, Mike Crusham, Pres./MM for CCM+E Minneapolis, two months ago that he intended to retire Aug. 1st. True to his word, he did, but not in 7typical fashion. On Thursday evening, he quit in the middle of his show. Crusham added: 'He decided not to go public with it until today. I think he is serious about it. I hope he is not. He is one of the best talk show hosts I have ever worked with or listened to.' A couple of hours after Lewis quit, he tweeted "Today I left the radio biz for something better." The tweet included the hashtag #GoingGalt and a link to the website galt.io. Also at the site is a 15-minute clip featuring a "parody of what it is like working in a 'highly regulated industry' and some of the events that led to his decision" to quit the radio show. Lewis spent a decade at KSTP-AM before leaving in 2003 for WBT in Charlotte, N.C. He returned to KTLK in the Twin Cities in 2006 for a job at KTLK. In 2009, The Jason Lewis Show" became syndicated by Genesis Communications. Crusham said the station is planning to run the "Joe Pags Show," from WOAI in San Antonio, starting next week in Lewis' time slot.

[LISTEN] Larry King Says 'Pompous' Piers Morgan Caused Failure

“Personally, I like him fine, but it was all about him." King

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– With an assist from Envision Networks® Guest Services, Larry King rang up Larry, Rob and Kris of Norton (shown) in the Morning on WGRF/Buffalo to promote th7e third season of his hit internet show Larry King Now. And, of course, the subject quickly turned to Larry King's successor Piers Morgan’s lack of success following the cancellation of Piers Morgan Live. Larry commented on Piers Morgan’s difficult transition into his new role. “Any person who has been on for 25 years in one place and you have an audience who is used to you…it’s very hard to step into those shoes no matter who it is.” King compared Piers Morgan’s interview style compared to his own. “Personally, I like him fine, but it was all about him. It was the opposite of the way I interview. He was the opposite. So now they not only had someone who was British, different, but then he would use the word ‘I’ every other word…He became, I thought a bit, in my opinion, pompous, but that’s the way I looked at it. So I had trouble watching Piers Morgan’s show, and I guess a lot of other people did too.” LISTEN HERE

Carnival Operator Draws Fire After Radio Host Post Blog Of His Daughter & Others Being Turned Away From Rides During 'Special Needs Day'

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– A Carnival operator has come under fire after a local radio host blogged about his daughter and other kids with special needs being denied rides at a local amusement part. Greg Dwyers, co-host of the legendary "Dwyer & Michaels Show on 97X/Quad Cities posted: "Today, I have to say something, even it’s to nobody. Today we went to a ‘Special Needs Day’ at our summer Fair, like we do every year ... The Fair offers free admission and rides for 3 hours for families with a special needs member ... Until today. We were told by a ride operator that these kids could no longer go on rides that go in the air (or, about 90% of the rides my daughter was interested in riding, and had been on in years past with no issue.)" He added: I am so proud that my daughter, who has never asked for special anything, even in the face of this awful treatment, managed to hide her disappointment until she walked away from the line. But, with tears welling up in her eyes, she finally shouts, “THIS STINKS!” You tell ‘em Sweetie.!" Local media quickly picked up the post and now the town is buzzing. The quadcitiestimes.com headlined: Not-so-Special ‘Special Needs Day’ |When the Fair director learned of the incidents, he quickly issued an apology. “We strive to make everybody happy, especially these kids." He added that the special needs guests who were turned away would be invited back Sunday from 10-11 a.m. to “enjoy the fair as it should be.”

Jacobs Media Launches 'Innovation Friday'

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– "No, today’s blog post title is not an oxymoron despite what you hear from naysayers in and out of the radio business. But as an industry, I think we all can agree that when it comes to innovation, we could do more and we need to do better," says Jacobs Media head Fred Jacobs. "And that’s why today, Jacobs Media is introducing a new initiative that’s designed to showcase innovation in radio. We’re going to spend the next year 7(or so) here at Jacobs Media shining the light on the most innovative ideas and the people and teams behind them. We’re designating the last day of each week as “Innovation Fridays” in our blog. So right here, starting next week, we will tell the stories of true radio innovators. Some of these people, teams, and accomplishments are well-known. Other “Innovation Friday” posts will introduce you to radio professionals from markets or stations most of us have never heard of. And we will very likely raise some eyebrows with our choices because innovation is often in the eye of the beholder. It won’t be perfect, but we’ll give it our best shot because we believe this initiative is important to an industry that is truly at the crossroads." Jacobs adds "just to make it official, we will be handing out physical awards like the one pictured here to each week’s recipient of our “Innovation Friday” attention. READ FULL POST HERE

ROBIN MARSHAL: 'That's Absolutely Me On The Cover'

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– Our good friend and cohort Al Peterson, publisher of ntsmediaonline.com, writes in a special feature: "you may not actually know Robin Marshall, you probably know her voice. Yeah ... that voice. The one behind those ads you’ve heard for Wal-Mart, Lexus, Best Western Hotels, Outback and many more clients. Or perhaps you heard her during her 20-year stint on the air in New York City, or as the imaging voice for numerous radio stations 7nationwide, as well as several nationally syndicated shows." But it wasn't her career he was examing in this special interview, it was her just released book: The Diary of a Sugar Mom: Don’t Tell The Kids. Marshall reveals some steamy details including what was real vs. fictional: PETERSON: You call the book, “pure faction” but you seem to be intimately familiar with your story’s lead character? How did you research the woman you call ‘Pandora.’ ROBIN: I’m not going to tell you what’s true and what isn’t, but I will tell you that a lot of it is true -- but then a lot of it isn’t. I can say that a tremendous amount of the family parts and the kid parts are true. As for the (s)ex, a lot of is -- well, it is what it is. AL: Will you at least admit to whether or not that’s you on the front cover? ROBYN: Yes, that’s absolutely me (see photo at left for proof). READ ENTIRE INTERVIEW HERE

[WATCH] Sioux Falls Host Walmart Ice Cream Melt Test Goes Viral

3,406,742 Views And Counting

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 1ST, 2014 –– Proving again it's now how big the market, but how big the imagination, Dan Collins of KIKN 100.5 Sioux Falls, SD read about the woman in Cincinnati who told a TV station in mid-July that her son’s ice cream sandwich was left outside in 80-degree weather for 12 hours and didn’t melt. And number of other TV stations p7icked up on the story, but Dan decided to actually put it to the test. And what do you know? over an hour later it still hadn't melted even in 80º heat. For comparative purposes, he also laid another ice cream brand next to the Walmart sandwich. The other brand was in a puddle in about 30 minutes. A Walmart spokesman, Danit Marquardt said "It is “real ice cream”; it just has more cream. “Ice cream with more cream will generally melt at a slower rate, which is the case with our Great Value ice cream sandwiches.” Walmart’s ice cream sandwiches contain the ingredients corn syrup, guar gum, carob bean gum and cellulose gum, which act as stabilizers to help the ice cream keep its shape. Of course, none of this is as important than Collin's simple melt test, as of this morning, had topped over 3,000,000 views - WATCH HERE

Fox Appeased By Host's Suspension, Restores Advertising On Entercom

THE MOUTH, JULY 31ST, 2014 –– Looks like Fox And Entercom will be doing business again even sooner than Kirk Minihane's week long suspension. According to boston.com, after Fox had pulled all its advertising from Entercom's 100-plus stations nationwide following a series of comments about Erin Andrews by Minihane, it appears Entercom's suspension of the host and response by its President David Field was enough to appease Fox and restore an estimated $1 million in advertising. "We appreciate Entercom's recognition and response to the inappropriate comments made by the WEEI host,'' said Fox Sports senior vice president of media relations Lou D'Ermilio in a statement. "It is our sincere hope both organizations can now move forward." Minihane’s suspension, which began Monday, was announced Friday night by 7Entercom president and chief executive officer David Field: “Kirk Minihane’s statements regarding Erin Andrews were offensive and deplorable. It is clear by the response from our listeners, advertisers, and employees that Kirk’s efforts to apologize and make this right have been insufficient and ambiguous. We want to make it unequivocally clear that his comments were unacceptable and do not reflect Entercom’s values and standards.” Minihane is one of three members of the Dennis and Callahan” Show. Entercom Boston VP/Market Manager Phil Zachary said, "On our end, we consider the matter 100 percent resolved."

Cleveland Newspaper Passes On Full Page LeBron James Ad By ESPN Host Dan Le Batard

THE MOUTH, JULY 31ST, 2014 –– As Miami Heat fans grapple with LeBron James return to Cleveland, ESPN host Dan Le Batard (inset) wanted to remind him and Cleveland which city he earned both of his championship rings. The Bleacher Report writes that cleveland.com's Evan MacDonald, representatives from The Dan Le Batard Show called the Northeast Ohio Media Group in hopes of taking out a full-page ad (mockup shown) in Cleveland's Plain Dealer, but his ad was "politely declined." Le Batard told his listeners that the ad was not meant to be mean-spirited. Rather, it was to poke fun at James and Cavaliers fans. One reason Le Batard wanted to run the advertisement is that James has never publicly thanked Heat fans for their support over the past four seasons. Reportedly, Le Batard was also attempting to run the ad in The Akron Beacon-Journal who also declined. And for those who want to plan now for the first face-off between the LeBron charged Cavaliers and Miami Heat, it's set for Christmas Day.
