THE MOUTH, AUGUST 26TH, 2015 –– Scripps Milwaukee has named Dayton Kane (R) as Program Mgr. and afternoon host and Jillene Khan as its evening host. With the moves, they become the first full-time hosts to join the recently launched country outlet. Kane arrives from KISS-FM (WKSZ-FM Appleton/Oskosh, WI) 7where he handled programming and mornings.

"Our search has centered greatly on people with local connections, hit music experience and a love of country music. Hiring, Dayton Kane, a Milwaukee native, who's ready to come home and has been working just up the road, is a huge win for KTI Country" said WTMJ-AM and WKTI-FM VP/GM Tom Langmyer.

Joining for nights is Jillene Khan (L) who arrives from WLLR-FM/Quad Cities. She began her career in Minneapolis area. Kane and Khan will make their KTI Country debut on September 8.

Frank Ski (L) announced his departure from DC station WHUR-FM after two years as its afternoon host. In a release, he said his final on-air broadcast will be this Friday. According to The AJC's Rodney Ho,

Ski left Atlanta after 14 years on V-103 as morning host in late 2012. At the time, he said he wanted to go national and V-103’s parent company CBS was unable to help him do that. Since joining WHUR, he has commuted between Atlanta and D.C. But over those two years, he was unable to get syndication deals in other markets, including a way back on air in Atlanta. Ski still runs a Buckhead restaurant in Atlanta but changed its named from Frank Ski’s to Klass with Kevin Edwards at the helm.

7THE MOUTH, AUGUST 26TH, 2015 –– Markley (R), one half of The Robbins & Markley Show which airs on FM News 101 KXL Weekdays 2p-6p CST 1470 and 100.3 WMBD Peoria, IL, Robbins and Markey Show, posted on Facebook: 'As many times as we've joked on the show about Robbins worst fear of having "a grabber", please know this is no joke or prank or some sort of radio bit. (I wish it were) Scott suffered a massive heart attack early (Tuesday) morning. He went into cardiac arrest and was saved by CPR and needed 3 different shocks to bring him back. He was stabilized in the hospital and was coherent. I (along with his family) was able to talk with him several times throughout the day. An entire team of pros were working on him and brought him back. The staff here said it was pretty much a miracle he made it through last night.

In a morning update, Markley posted: 'After a scan today, the doctors were able to find where Scott's internal bleeding was originating from. They then performed a procedure (they had no choice) to stop the bleeding and the procedure was successful. (If Scott wants to share all of the particulars of that info I'll let him do that later.... Now we're waiting for his condition to steadily improve to go into open heart surgery. I gotta admit, this has been a very scary day. Thanks so much for your prayers and the comments - I can't wait to share all of this with him!

REPORT: 94.7 Fresh FM's Tommy McFly, The Future of Radio

7

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 26TH, 2015 –– We reported last week that the Washingtonian (extremely popular magazine in DC) featured CBS 94.7 Fresh FM's Tommy McFly in an article titled 'Tommy McFly' The Future of Radio.' Well, upon finding out at press time we had been given an advance peek and the article still wasn't live, Jockline was left with only a tease. Well, the piece is out, so check it out. Along with show members (and regular Morning Show Boot Camp attendees) Jen Richer (right center) and Kelly Collis (bottom right), writer Andrew Beaujon says "The Tommy Show crew wins its listeners one at a time. If that means deejays giving out their cell numbers to pretty much anyone who wants to connect, that’s fine. McFly’s retail approach seems to be working. The Tommy Show accounts for about a third of the station’s listeners, and more than 320,000 tune in each week.

“There’s no normal anymore,” McFly says about radio in the second decade of the 21st century. “There’s no punching the clock.” At work by 4:30 am, McFly—who lives with his partner, Chrysovalantis Kefalas, a candidate for US Senate in Maryland—is out most nights at “family” events. .. Collis is at Jiffy Lube Live, celebrating her wedding the previous day to Patrick Bauer, a government contractor. The festivities take place on the venue’s party decks, at the rear of the amphitheater. SPECIAL REPORT: Remembering Katrina 10-Years Later; Living At Station, Broadcasting From Under A Cabana

7

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 26TH, 2015 –– This week marks the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. For the occasion, Jockline will be sharing stories of how radio responded to one of our country's, most deadly and destructive storms. Among the many unforgettable memories comes from Wayne Watkins Program Director WQBB-FM/BOB 105.9 Alpha Media. Like many others along the gulf coast, he lost his home and began living at his station (The 105.9 WXRG control room, yes we were on the air!) where he broadcast under a tarp (above right)

Watkins tells Jockline, "New Orleans got a levee break, the Mississippi Gulf Coast got Katrina.' After losing his home (upper left photo of neighborhood) he eventually got a ride to the radio station to let everyone know he was fine, but said 'the only thing I owned was the soiled clothes on my back, full of diesel fuel and seaweed. I decided to live in the radio station lobby for a while, we needed security, the place had lost it’s roof and was totally water-logged. We got one studio live, and simulcasted post-Katrina from under a plastic homemade cabana!. READ FULL STORY HERE

SPECIAL REPORT: Remembering Katrina 10-Years Later; The Forming Of United Radio Of New Orleans (URNO)

7

THE MOUTH, AUGUST 25TH, 2015 –– This week marks the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. For this occasion, Jockline will be sharing stories of how radio responded to one of our country's, most deadly and destructive storms. No stranger to natural disasters, Katrina dealt radio a particularly unusual wallop. Among the many ways it responded included the formation of URNO (United Radio of New Orleans), the creation of Hobbs Media's Gabe Hobbs, then VP/new, talk/sports for Clear Channel, and Ken Beck, then VP Tech Ops/Entercom Communications.

Hobbs tells Jockline, 'Beck and I decided to join forces so Entercom and Clear Channel could offer continuous coverage that was simulcast on all Entercom and CC stations that were on the air. We offered the feed to anyone that wanted it and at one time we believe we had north of 20 stations carrying the feed we created from our Baton Rouge studios. (Although we had no way to verify as anyone could grab it with an FM tuner as minimal requirement. We had a lot of little stations out in the boondocks running it as well.)"

Hobbs continues, 'We actually housed Entercom's WWL crew in (Clear Channel's) Baton Rouge studios. As a matter of fact, we used a rented helicopter to get their employees and ours out of downtown New Orleans. The last trip out was very scary as we were landing on a pad at the Superdome. The crowd figured out what was going on after a few trips and tried to rush the helicopter. After that we had to find roads to get the remaining employees (Entercom and CC) out of downtown. The whole thing was just one crazy moment after another,' says Hobbs. But we made history by doing something that was never done before and, as far as I know, it has never been done again!! Hell, even the AP, law enforcement and many other agencies were listening to our feed to find out what was going on as they had almost no communications between them. We were treated like first responders!!'

Also, what was then called the RTNDA (Radio Television News Directors Association,) gave Clear Channel & Entercom recognition and a First Amendment Award at their annual RTNDF banquet (Radio Television News Directors Foundation.) (Hobbs shown above lower right with Cokie Roberts at the event)

TOMORROW: The host who lost his home, began living at his station where he broadcast under a tarp.
