Hosts Suspended After Suggesting Journalists Slayings Were A Hoax

Online Donation Page For Alison & Adam Memorial Fund Set By NAB

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2015 –– The manager of three Missouri stations issued an on-air apology last week and has suspended a pair of Sunday morning talk hosts, after they suggested the on-camera shooting deaths of two Virginia journalists was a hoax. According to nydn.com, the comments came during a Sunday morning call-in show, “Cracker Barrel,” which airs on KTTS FM, KSGF FM and KSGF AM. This followed shortly after the tragic deaths of WDBJ7/Roanoke TV reporters Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward (shown) were 7shot by a former co-worker on live television.

Stations manager Rex Hansen issued an on-air apology saying the “hoax” comments made on Aug. 30 were “not factual, disrespectful and downright wrong.” He added "Well, unfortunately two people died. The camera man and his anchor partner. That was a fact," Hansen said. PHOTO/WDBJ-TV

Online contributions are now being accepted for a memorial fund supporting the families of two broadcast journalists slain last month during the Roanoke TV shooting. SHOCKER: Jerry To Exit Jeff & Jer Show Next Month

Jeff, Tommy And Other Cast Members Extend Deal With KYXY San Diego As Showgram Continues

7

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2015 –– One of San Diego's most beloved shows, The Jeff & Jer' Showgram, will be minus one special member beginning October 15th. In an emotional announcement on this morning's show on CBS' KYXY-FM, Jerry Cesak (top center) explained to listeners why he was leaving, "The reason I’m leaving radio really can be told in 2 simple words. “It’s time.” I think life comes in chapters, and in my life, the radio chapter is over. And that’s it. It’s just time. But do not worry – The Showgram will continue (Jeff Detrow and Tommy Sablan shown below inking new deal with interim GM Tina Rifkin). You can still spend every morning listening to the Showgram. Of course, it’s going to awfully lame without me – but The Showgram will still be on. More about that later,. I am genuinely excited about what’s next in my life. At the same time, I gotta tell you this is very weird. I’ve been on the7 radio for 45 years. It’s all I’ve ever done. And to stop – just quit – seems strange and it seems scary. But it’s good scary so that’s OK.

The show which first aired in San Diego in May of 1988, will likely end outdoors. Jerry said "Our last show together, October 14, we’re going to do outside the studio somewhere so we and you can be together. .. Tomorrow Jerry will reportedly, he and his wife Pam plan to focus on their love for animals and build a pet hospital in San Diego.

Executive Producer Tommy Sablan tells Jockline: "Jerry probably has one of the most successful morning radio careers in the history of radio. It should serve as inspiration to a young up and coming talent to know that they can last long, like we did, AND that their show can make a huge difference to their listeners. Now, it's time to end the Beatles and start WINGS.

BLOG: Trump Pushes The Art Of Being A Shock Jock To A New Level

Great talent Is Bigger Than Ideas (Or A Format)

THE MOUTH, SEPTEMBER 9TH, 2015 –– In the latest blog from Paragon Media titled Talent Trumps All, they write in explaining Donald Trump's unexpected rise in popularity, 'He pushs the art of being a shock jock to new heights. Politics aside, Trump has turned political logic upside down and has taught old politicians that everything they thought was true is no longer true. It’s not because of what he stands for. It’s what he says and how he says it.

How does he do it? He talks about his own popularity. He attacks his opponents. He says what others think, but don’t say. He’s a dirty, scrappy, competitive winner who wants you to know how much money he makes. He speaks plain English. He’s against the man, against the system, even though he’s a huge part of it all. It’s you and me against the world, baby. In our (radio) business, we can relate to the lessons Trump is showing the political world.

Great talent is bigger than ideas (or a format). Better talent beats lesser talent. Entire organizations can be built and succeed around one great talent. In our business, we haven’t seen this display of talent since Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern wrote the book on shock jocks. It’s probably wishful thinking, but maybe Trump is reminding radio owners that an investment in great talent will always pay them back. Because of his unpredictability and button-popping bravado, the cameras can’t stop filming and the people can’t stop watching. This guy is showing what happens when talent trumps everything else.
